Cheaper yet just as efficient power supplies?

JohnnyIsHere

oh shit! that sounds awesome... don't know if i have the money though.. could i get the R9 380 and then some cheap ass one?

has to be another 380. You don't have to do it now you can do it later. As long as your mono supports it of course.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Do u mean my power supply needs good components or my build.

I mean you want a good quality Power Supply - not a "efficient" one since one doesn't guarantee the other

Antec High Current Gamer and Corsair CX are both 80+ bronze but the Antec is worlds better than the crappy CX

Modular means you can remove all cables from the back, semi-modular means you can remove some and others not, and non-modual means there are cables that come hooked up to the back and you cannot remove them.

If I did a bad job at explaining heres an As Fast As Possible episode the Linus made on it -

Edit: Modular cables allow for unneeded cables to be removed. It's less clutter and it generally better.

I made a typo. It's modular and not non-modular.

Yes, modular psus tend to be more expensive.

Idk if we have many on sale in nz :o is it $120 or $163.. would u still pick that over the http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3165353

The HCG-520 is $112 while the modular 620w version is $137 in NZ:

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=684670

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1214738

The 550 GS is better but not necessary over the cheaper alternatives.

EVGA GS are also fantastic quality - whichever is cheaper - also look at the XFX TS 550W

I found the evga : http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3165353 .. Was hoping to find one around $100 though... or is it not worth cheaping out on the power supply

Honestly, it is never worth it to cheap out on the power supply. That doesn't mean you should get the most expensive either. Check for other well made models as well.

Right now I can't think of all of them, but Antec's hcg series is well respected, some xfx and seasonic psu's are good too.

A lot of good ones will probably run 120-150 nzd. Hopefully someone else can find you a cheaper good quality psu.

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB
