Windows 7 won't boot up. Re install?

TheDigitalRealm
Go to solution Solved by Ookami,

Dont do all in the same time - go thru each step.

1. Check if you have a program called Virtu MVP installed by any chance and if yes the disable/uninstall it.

2. In BIOS (if you have CPU with integrated GPU) disable integrated (iGPU) GPU.

3. Check motherboard website for BIOS update

4. Plug in other card in and check if same thing happens when you install drivers for that specific card. If not - your card is messed up...

TL:DR? - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/394876-33-after-installing-drivers-windows-boot

So after finally getting my new asus hd 7950 dcu2t to work in a seemingly fragile pci-e lane. I downloaded the drivers from AMD's website. GPU tweak still said I needed to download vga drivers, so I downloaded some from the Asus website. I restarted the pc, but then it froze on the windows 7 animation.

I ran the start up repair thing, it couldn't fix it and I didn't click the option to restore to a previous state.

I rebooted, the same thing happened and the option to restore was gone.

I then was told by forums to press F8 on start up, which I tried, but it just brought the boot order in the bios.

I was then told that the next step would be to re-install. I don't have a disc drive so have just created it on usb via Linus's video.

Are there certain things I need to do when installing this time?

Any advice on my situation would be greatly appreciated.

Just try and restore it to the earliest known point of perfect working order.

if that doesn't work, reformat and re-install.

I would download the drivers for your gfx card from AMDs website, rather then Asus.

You've got the product key ??

Yes, it wouldn't be an option otherwise.

Like I said, that option is no longer available. I'll just reformat and re-install.

Apparently there is a way to save old files, it can detect that there is a previous version of windows on the system?

I tried that, but GPU tweak was still saying that I needed the vga drivers for it to work.

Try booting into safe mode. From there you can disable the loading "splash screen", when you restart you will see a list of drivers and such that are being loaded on boot. Take a look at what is trying to load when it hangs.

Okay, so I re-installed windows and got around to installing the drivers again, this time from AMD's website and upon installation I rebooted and again the screen went blank just after the start up animation. I restored Windows to an earlier state and everything is now fine. I don't know how to install the drivers without this happening?

There isn't a problem with gpu tweak? I just want to install the drivers for my card to play some games without the booting problems I'm having.

Drivers from Asus website are outdated. With ones from AMD site you shouldnt have any problems. You mixed 2 versions of drivers and you didnt even said if you uninstalled the old ones.

I did a fresh install of windows, that's as deleted as the drivers are going to get. I only used drivers from AMD's website, like I said before. I even ran AMD's cleaner to get rid of any drivers still on there.

I just don't understand where I've gone wrong.

Thank you for the advice, I do have virtuMVP installed. I shall try going through it all later today. I've already updated my motherboard UEFI/BIOS.

I got it to work! I had Intel HD Graphics drivers installed as well as virtuMVP. I uninstalled both of those and it now works fine. My guess would be that it was the Intel HD Graphics causing all the trouble.
