welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forums!

then you pretty much wrote off both CPU choices. had to choose either

the 6600k for the technology refinements, newer DDR4 RAM and native NVMe

SSD usage.

specifically gaming, 4690k or 6600k will save some money to use towards a

better GPU.

4790k is stronger ofc but 6600k is cheaper especially if just gaing at 1080p and 1440p. since the ram and motherboard price is now coming down so ya why not skylake since it is newer. but if the difference in price does not affect you much i7 is the way to go even it is 2 generation older it will bring you further.

Yeah, 4970k is $519 where i live and the 6600k is $325, big savings there but thanks for your recommendation, just wondering if the 4790k suited for my needs for its price but it looks like its the 6600k :)

then a 6600k will be nice if ddr4 is not too expensive there. if it is then go with a 4690k and ddr3. r9 390 is very good for 1080p and 1440p so go with that too. good luck hunting!
