Anyone who is IT, have you ever got a call a few hours before you shift from your CEO/CFO/CIO saying "The servers are down." or something of similar status? How did you handle it? Stress your brain all to hell? Or was it a simple fix for you? I had it happen to me once, the servers were down for a whole 3 days and they had to work on paper. It was incredibly stressful for me. Pulled many hours redoing scripts and figuring out the cause left over from previous IT members at this office.

Happened about 3 months ago.

We had a similar thing but the servers re-booted. But that feeling when everyone is calling you (bosses and what not) is scary as fuck.

Luckily our downtime was only 15 mins but still.

The big questions are, "did you get it fixed?" and "has there been any issues since?". If you haven't been fired I would say that you did a pretty good job if you had to go in to the scripts and fix an ex-employee's screw-ups.

Turn the situation around and look at it like an opportunity to impress the CEO/CFO/CIO - then once you've fixed it and they ask you how you did it (this is usually the point where they stop caring) ask for a pay rise

When I was at the NHS on the helpdesk, servers for our software to log calls ALL stopped working. Could not connect, IT WAS HILARIOUS!

We had to take calls and note them in Word for a few hours. I do wonder how stressful it was for the guys fixing the server though.

I'm going to put a link to my PC specs which actually aren't my PC specs and I cry myself to sleep everyday so I can have these PC specs but I can't afford these PC specs so PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs.

Yeah haha, bosses breathing down your neck waiting for you to fix it and having to call in support tickets ect for other things, get people in. Updating the bosses constantly on your progress. Heart racing, headaches occuring, hoping the next thing you do fixes it and doesn't make it worse. Get the server up for a brief second and it goes back down. Back to square one.

Such stress...

Sadly, They won't pay me anymore than I'm being paid, and I'm getting paid shit. I've done so much for this company, but that's the life of IT, no praise in what you actually did because it's hard for them to interpret what you ACTUALLY had to do and how much training and practice it took to get where you are.

Happened to our IT at my work over the summer. We work at a theme park and rely on the servers to process any type of park transaction whether it be cash, credit card, or even scanning the tickets at the front gate.

I don't think i've ever witnessed a sweatier or more worried group of people in my life.

Oh the servers are down are they Bossman....

In My head - "Pity, I warned you before last week this was a risk, and how to fix it in a few minutes of pre-planning and user actions on your part (his account security is higher, needing him at times), but I'm not expected in today....."

Did you want me to come in?

Nope, we got it...

I live 5 mins away, and they outsourced, costing them way MORE money.... instead of putting it in my pocket and being finished in 5-10 mins, the other guy took little over an hour because he had to learn his way around how WE were setup.

Fuck Work!

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Well, my co-worker is always fucking up shit. He is always in stuff and I warn him he is going to break something and I'm going to have to end up fixing it.

He breaks shit and I fix it and he keeps his job because he's good friends with the CFO...

Yeah. We usually go into triage mode because my coworkers and I are literally the only people who can fix stuff on site. We get left alone because if our server room goes down most of BC goes down with it. So we don't get hassled about it, everyone is more interested in getting it back working.
