So Ive ordered a new monitor and SSD, so Ive decided to upgrade my CPU too, Im standing In the midst of the 4790 and the 4790K. My MOBO does not allow for OC'ing and I have NO INTENTION to overclock that being said, Im wondering why the base clock of the 4790K Is 4.0Ghz and the base clock of the 4790 Is 3.6Ghz. Is the 4790K worth the extra cost? It's like 25$ more... I should also mention that most of my time spent In games Is spent on SWTOR which Is a game that eats single core performance, and my 4460 Is dipping Into the 20s during heavy PvP. (the game Is horribly optimized and can only use 2 cores)

If you have no intention to OC, then get the 4790. However if you think 400MHz is worth 25 dollars, go for it. I don't think so, however.

Get the 4790 and a good cooler for 25 dollars if you want it to be more silent.

4790k is still better, offers more performance

400MHz of an improvement is basically nothing when it comes to framerates, it only really helps in synthetic benchmarks. His board can't OC anyway.

Base clock 3.6GHz vs 4.0GHz. For $25 more, I will take the "K" even do no overclocking.

I mean to each his own, but like @ThinkWithPortals said its only 400mhz

Unless he's crunching some big numbers he won't see that much of a performance increase :P

He doesn't say he only uses the rig for gaming.

It doesn't matter, the only places the 400MHz will make a difference is when benchmarking. Is it really practical to spend 25 more dollars to get a higher number in the benchmark?

Then it depends whether $25 is a big deal to you.

I probably will spend more than that when eating out.

25$ Is not a HUGE deal, I was just wondering If It was worth It, as I noted single core performance Is of the utmost Importance. The game can only use 2 cores.

All I do Is game :P But the game I play the most (SWTOR) can only use 2 cores and Is VERY CPU Intensive, I get around 20FPS In heavy combat with my 4460.

If you really want to spend 25 dollars for a 400MHz clockspeed bump, go for it, I won't stop you. I wouldn't, but perhaps that's just me being a tight-wad :P

Per core performance will be 11% with 4790K.

But I guess the resell value will be better with the 4790K down the road.
