Is this normal?

Whenever I open up Google chrome, all 4 cores on my Athlon 860K jump up to 100% until it's done loading. I've tried reinstalling chrome but it still happens.

 

This doesn't seem to happen with Firefox (cores jump to around 50-60% instead).

All depends on the extensions you have. Some ad blockers may use a lot of power

yes this is normal

google chrome is optimized to use as many resources as possible to make it faster

 

it also uses my 4790k all 8 threads to 100%

but it only lasts like 1/10th of a second because its so fast

Also noticed that loading webpages can increase the CPU usage quite largely as well (drops down after though). I'm guessing this behaviour is normal, too?

 

I.e. Refreshing this page caused CPU usage to go from 35% > 70%

Perfectly normal.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.
