Uh, no? i3's don't bottleneck 380s in games due to the 2 extra threads.

Some games wont even play with dualcores these days. Quadcore all the way.

As for @OP, the 380X is expected to have an RRP of $250~ so choose from that.

Owo the new Farcry wont even start on an i3

That's just plain wrong. I can confirm it does indeed work fine on an i3, my wife's i3 3240 runs it perfectly. Far Cry 4 will not work on the G3258 and other dual core Pentiums.

An i3 is excellent for gaming on a budget, there's no shame in using one. However an i5 is a safer investment if you can save a little more cash.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

For your needs an i3 will be great. My 4360 is actually quite a beast.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Wrong. If you only have two threads, the game might crash. That's is the restriction. Having four threads is enough to run the game. Y'all really need to understand the difference between a core and a thread, not gobble up hype and lies, and actually research things once in awhile.

I3 4130 = stock fx 6300 in games that uses up to 4 cores

In games that uses all the cores/threads, the Fx 6300 is faster then any i3 short of skylake i3s...

Fx 6300 @ 4.2GHz will be close to a ivy bridge i5 in games that uses all 6 threads

Good Fx setup

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($97.88 @ OutletPC)

Motherboard: ASRock 970M PRO3 Micro ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard ($63.89 @ OutletPC)

Memory: Silicon Power Xpower 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($36.99 @ Amazon)

Total: $198.76

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

OC the Fx to 4.2GHz and enjoy. It will perform just fine (that board will handle up to 4.4GHz depending on the voltage you need).

If you doubt me. Check out "Testing Games" on YouTube. He tests games with Fx 6300, i5 4690k i3 4360 and more... He also shows difference between running a Fx at stock abd at 4.8GHz

As for an i3 setup...

i3 with 2400 MHz RAM (cuz after the thread that exposed how going from 1600Mhz to 2133 on a 4130 gave you 5 FPS flat increase, i figure since 2400MHz costs about the same as 1600MHz give ot take 10 USD, we will run with 2400MHz)

intel locked their boards for RAM speeds faster then 1600MHz, so you need a Z97 board for that... which makes the i3 35 bucks more expensive then the FX... and without 2400MHz RAM, the i3 (4170) would actually be slightly slower too...
