What sound card do you have?

I would recommend an analog headset if you have a decent sound card and a USB headset if you are using on-board audio such as on a laptop for example.

He probably has on-board audio but the first one comes with a USB

given the choices I choose not to vote

Agreed :P

Why post then? Not everyone can afford expensive stuff. Beside this is going to be a gift.

It's not the price we object to, it's the overall quality you get for it in ANY headset.  I can get an $80-$120 headphone that will easily destroy all of those headphones in sound quality, durability, and comfort.  Get an addon mic like the zalman one or modmic and it's a mere extra 10 to 30 dollars.

$50:

$80:

$100:

$140: (might need an amp if you're going to use it with a phone or PMP)

All would be far better choices than anything you've mentioned so far.  I'd especially recommend the Audio Technicas and the Superlux 668B as those are particularly noted as good at positional audio.  You can use the virtual surround in your game.

"Pardon my French but this is just about the most ignorant blanket statement I've ever read. And though this is the internet, I'm not even exaggerating."

Yea I'm not going any higher than $50, like I said it's a gift plus mod mics are over price imo

I am truly sorry, that was a joke, albeit a bad one.

If you're picking a cheap headset, Logitech would be my vote.

would you consider something like a koss porta pro or the monoprice dj headphones and a zalman clip on?

links to my reviews of both are in the faq.

they would both sound good and be around $30-45 total

Will work for electronic components and parts
