They have radio transmitters. All the Audio/Video is transcoded onto a carrier wave and sent out via VHF/UHF. Your TV has encoders that will demodulate the signal from RF into IF and your TV will display it. They don't use any service as you stated.

You can also go to youtube for videos like this.

See the response by the user above.

Here in the UK, we recieve TV digitally through "Freeview". The digital TV service we recieve replaces the old 5 channels that we used to have available on analog television, with over 100 channels with a variety of content and interactive services.

The news stations available on Digital TV have accompanying 'apps' which can be activated using one of the coloured buttons on the remote handset. These 'apps' allow the viewer to browse and read news reports while watching the news station in the corner of the screen. An example of such a service would be what the BBC calls the "BBC Red Button".

In direct response to your question, I'm guessing they use a lot of expensive equipment and propietary software and tools to stream a channel to your TV set.

Yea, that's how I understood it as well.

Answer:

Probably proprietary software, built in-house. They also have mixing consoles for video. It's pretty much like Xsplit, but with real knobs.

For overlays? A switcher generally.

Our truck just streams the stuff to the station wich goes out to TV over the internet.

Is the tricaster like ablackmagic?

Probably, we use Broadcast Pix in our middle schools, something I forgot in our high schools and I don't even know what is in our truck but it is like 5-6ft long.

Overlays and things like that are made with specialised hardware, not even software.

That does all their processing.

Well actually, our graphics are handled my a COMPIX system and then fed to our switcher which is overlayed ontop of one of our cameras.
