If he wants a 960, go for it.  I might not be as good for price to performance as the 380, but it's still a good card. 
Now the FX...  just no.  period.

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.
