msi vs ASUS x99

Go to solution Solved by Curufinwe_wins,

So Asus has some extra features you probably will never use or need, the only one I'd say that actually was quite cool imho was the x99 saber tooth comes with 11 fan headers on the mobo which is amazeballs for bios controlled many fan systems.

It does have some other issues though. (Namely no ability to run 3way at all on a 5820k or on any cpu with the m.2 active. Also it can't run sli and raid pcie storage. A terrible m.2 placement solution) Now the issues won't affect most people but they do exist so disclaimer.

The msi x99 sli plus is by far the best value x99 mobo on the market. It shares almost identical feature set with the much more expensive gaming 7 (including same pcie/sata/usb/io) I wouldn't recommend any other Asus or msi boards in that price range unless you feel color is that important to you.

Hello guys

I need help choosing a motherboard

I am looking to get a really good X99 for anything under $300, I did alot of research but I dont understand many differences because I dont understand their functions.

their are a lot of options ,please help choose or tell me what to look for.

CPU:5920K or 5960x (maybe xeon in the future)

GPU: Zotac gtx 980ti amp extreme

I am using the pc for mainly video editing and rendering with some gaming on the side.

to start I am looking for

-good over clocking performance

-support of new features

-fast LAN connectivity

-all in one (as close as possible)

-reliability.

if possible:

-user friendly bios and overclocking.

-wifi.

EDIT: Thanks in advance for taking the time : )

EDIT 2 : case: Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 + I dont care about the color or looks

why are the sabortooth and deluxe from asus expensive?

Deluxe is always super overpriced. Saber tooth must have gone up in price recently. I got mine for 300 even. But it's main features are insane tuf support (included thermistors, 11 fan headers, port covers for everything internal and external, "thermal armor").

The rest is just looks.

thanks man :) I really appreciate the details you gave

ok I see that the msi x99 sli plus is a good choice

but for a bit more I can get the krait edition MSI X99A SLI KRAIT EDITION

1-can I upgrade to a xeon or a 5960x in the future?on both of them

2-what is the difference between the krait and the plus?

thank you again

Krait is a black and white sli plus. To my knowledge there are no differences whatsoever except for fancier heatsinks.

All of them will support xeons and a 5960x not that I would ever recommend the upgrade to them. Not close to worth the cost.
