If your radio does not have a AUX function, then you will need to get an aftermarket stereo installed. From the looks of it, I don't think the OEM one has that capability. Aftermarket ones are pretty cheap nowadays (under $100 would get you one with every thing you will need); however, installation might be a bit expensive I would assume. Someone will probably verify that for you.

Do those sound good though?

They work alright and would save some coin. Otherwise he would have to buy a headunit, lets just say $50 as mentioned above, and the mounting hardware so lets say thats another $20-$30 from your local Walmart, then he needs to have it installed, if he can do it himself he can save a bit and get away with spending the ~$80, otherwise he also has to pay someone to install it unless he has a friend who has messed with installing dins.

I would go to your local auto stereo shop and get an estimate for a new head-unit.

To install you need to remove the plastic over the dash and then pull out the radio and cut the wires at the back. When you get a new one they come with a wiring harness and it's it's just a matter of matching the correct wires on the back of the stereo with the wires behind the dash.

Usually it's:

Yellow - 12V constant

Red - 12V Switched

Coloured and striped pairs - Individual speakers + and -

That you would need to go to your local auto parts store to see. Every car is different. Mine for example would probably be expensive to do because the stereo is integrated with every thing else.

is advanced auto parts a good store to get this done?

It's a pretty easy thing to do yourself especially on an older car. I would recommend giving it a go or at least calling over a mate who has changed their stereo before.

btw, i am correct that i need an AUX port for what i need right?

Yep. And you just connect a 3.5mm aux cable between the stereo and ipod. All newer head units come with an AUX port.

Just use the cassette adapter if your stock head unit has a cassette deck, it's way easier and less expensive than getting a new head unit.

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂

Nope they sound bloody awful.

Honestly you can buy an aftermarket head unit with a 3.5mm line in for dirt cheap, you can also buy adapter cables for your vehicle type to stereo type to make the installation a breeze.

Aftermarket would be best, I got the cheapest Sony unit I could find at Fry's back in 2002 and the total cost with wiring kit and installation was around $110. Alternatively, if you want something OEM there may be an Aux kit for your radio similar to this: http://www.oemautosound.com/p-34-chevrolet-auxiliary-interface-gm12-aux.aspx Stop by a local car audio specialist and ask them about it. They should be happy to provide you with a quote.
