My blu-ray drive seems to have disconnected or broke...one of them. I just tried to open it to watch a movie and it didn't do anything. I then noticed it doesn't even show up in the Device Manager anymore, nor does it show up in "My Computer".

Anyone have an idea of what happened or how I could plug it back in? Everything looks connected though.

no idea what reseating sata data and power are, the cables seem ok, and no drivers are listed on the HP page.

this is my computer: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01752634&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us〈=en&product=3983060

3 years ago I replaced the default case with a CM 690 II, the PSU with a CM Silent Pro 700w, and the graphics card with a MSi GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition. everything else is the same.

1) Turn off the computer

2) Remove the side panel of the computer case

3) Find the Blue Ray Drive INSIDE the case

3.1) There will be 2 cords coming from the back of it

3.2) One small (SATA) and one wider (power)

4) Unplug both and re-plug them back in and make sure connections are snug

Click start button, go to the search box and type in "Device Manager" and click enter. Once that screen pops up, right click on anything in it and click "Scan for hardware changes" - I've run into a few systems where that was the only way for the system to recognize it was plugged in.

Do any lights turn on? Chances are high that it's a dead drive now. It tends to happen. Thankfully I haven't had to use a cd drive in years.

i scanned but it must have found nothing since no changes were made and nothing popped up.

no, no lights turn on. its like trying to open up a drive when the PC is off: nothing happens. no sound, nothing. my regular cd drive works at least

Just saw that it was a HP machine. I've run into hundreds of those in my shop and the parts tend to fail pretty quickly.

just having the drive in the pc decreases its life

i to used my drive maybe 5 times  through its life and it died

well maybe it is dead then. damn, i was right about to start watching 3D blu-rays :(

anyone know a good replacement? theres only 9 on NCIX's website. thankfully, they aren't expensive

I've always had pretty good luck with Asus drives and Liteon. I do believe that Asus drives are the cheaper ones.

Any time. I've been stuck on the forum for the past 24 hours so I don't think I'll be going anywhere.

so after all that last night, I decided to turn off my computer and go to sleep. I woke up this morning, turned on my computer and noticed the blu-ray drive lit up and made a noise...now it works fine.

I don't know how or why, but I'm glad its back.
