Nope, it isn't. There are tons of other latencies in gaming, and the 3-4ms difference with IPS panels really isn't noticeable among them. IPS panels are great for any sort of gaming. TN panels just have a pointless 1ms response time (and sometimes that isn't even accurate.) for marketing to MLG noscope gAmerz for their super-420-blazing 144Hz monitors

Not that I've noticed, IMO IPS is worth it unless you're a pro player and you're trying to get those extra 4ms which won't make much if any difference to most people.

In my opinion IPS would be the better all rounder but every time you die in TF2 you would think "I could of gotten him if I had a TN" lol

Would anyone recommend an IPS panel for games like TF2? Is the input lag really that noticeable compared to TN or does it really make no difference?

I wouldn't recommend an IPS for TF2, but like others have said the latency difference is very minimal. I would definitely recommend IPS for most games where nice visuals is a big part of the experience. Movies as well. Personnally I think IPS is way better. I have somewhat generic HP monitor, but because it's IPS I think it looks way nicer than many people's "gaming monitors".

60 vs 120Hz makes a huge difference.

Panel type not so much.

I love IPS but as a person who plays fps games competitively, Im stuck with tn 144hz. Until ips 144hz comes down in price. I'm not going to pay$800 for nice colors. I cant stand playing at 60hz anymore. Its fine for singleplayer games and that's about it imo.

If the lag is not noticeable, why do people complain about the lag caused by Vsync? Are they equal amounts of lag or does Vsync cause more than IPS?

Vsync just naturally causes more lag and stuttering than IPS. If your framerate drops below the refresh rate of your monitor it'll stutter. IPS has 4-6ms of latency, which no ordinary person could react to anyway. Average human response time on a computer is around 150-200ms.

Yup. latency has NOTHING to do with the panel. You can find well over 30ms input lag TN panels like you can IPS, and you can find near 0ms input lag TN like you can with IPS.

The only difference is response time. However, this is less and less true, with IPS being now near as fast as TN, even, some IPS panels being just as fast and deliver 120Hz.

As it will be explained in the 'Display Technology FAQ/Mythbuster', the response time is a menaingless figures, as there is no standard in measuring. So every manufacture measure the panels differently. So monitor A might claim 1 ms response time, but will see HEAVY ghosting as you move, and you can monitor B with also claimed 1ms response time, yet has no ghosting, and the image remains sharp.

If response time is an issue, it is CRITICAL that you check in-depth review sites for your monitor that you are interested, to get the real/true response time, and see how it compares with other monitors.
