Should i upgrade if so what?

Hello Everyone over the past 5+ years ive been slowly upgrading my pc into something im very proud of, but ive been thinking maybe its time to upgrade my mobo and processor , as i would like to start overclocking , i use my rig for media (you tube moves tv etc) and gaming mostly gaming, and most games i can run mid-ultra , but its always been on a budget and perhaps is time to upgrade?

 

here are my current specs

 

CPU AMD FX-6300

 

Motherboard M5A78L-M/USB3

 

Ram 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz

 

Graphics 3072MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 / HD 7900 Series (Gigabyte)

 

and windows 10

 

(any more spec details please let me know)

 

so here is my thinking, maybe i need to upgrade my motherboard ? , which would make things easier as it would just be the best AM3+ i can afford possible with two pci slots so i can SLI/xrossfire later, but if its processor upgrade aswell , that would be more expensive my budget would be around £100 -£150 each, about £200-£250 for both , so do you guys think i need to upgrade and if so any recommendations?

the worthy upgrade for most ppl out ther from the FX is grabbing the Intel i3 core CPU + H97 or the Skylake i3 6100 and H170 boards

 

 

do note that Skylake platform may need you to change to DDR4 which will drive up the cost

 

but some mobo still support DDR3

you would be better off getting a 4460 and a h97 board as they will perform much better in games than any amd cpu you could get and it will still fit you in your 250 pound budget

Whatever you decide, stick with Windows 8.1 until some security risks are resolved relating to Windows 10.

so after doing some research for prices and general window shopping , i remembered a site/shop in the UK called CEX who do second hand games and such, they also do processors

now i dont know much about intel numbers but if any one would like to take a look at the site, and tell me what would be best for around £100-£150 would help alot

your parts are balanced right now and if you want noticeably better performance in games across the board you would have to upgrade to both an intel i5 processor (ivy bridge, haswell or skyrape) and a powerful GPU (R9 390/GTX 970...) if you can't do that then i would advise you stick to what you have and keep saving more money. upgrading only the GPU or only the CPU will not give the performance bump in games you are looking for and will most likely leave you a bit disappointed IMHO.

well they have i5's and i7's for sale, even a i7 extreme that is £400 on amazon for £100 , i have the budget so i can get a better gpu after the holidays , but i dont know what chip is best that they sell

From the list those are the ones that stand out to me as being the best price/perf in the higher end parts...you would need a H81/B85/H87/Z87/Z97...well pretty much any motherboard with a socket 1150 on it will do :D

ah i see its the same as your signature, and yeah i would have about £150- 200 to spend on a motherburd to go with that one, thats exactly what i needed to know thank you
