Ultrawide playing 21:9 on a 16:9

michaelocarroll007

Alright i see many posts here that i say "Da Fuq he talkin bout"  and i feel like this might be the response i get but im actually looking for a decent discussion let me know if im way off and just dumb or have a small valid point.

My question is what the real benefit of playing on an actual ultrawide  what if you buy a 27-32inch 2560x1440 moinitor and just played 2560x1080 on it wouldn't it be exactly the same ?  a 32inch 16:9 aspect ratio Displaying a 21:9 is almost the same size as a 34inch native 21:9  and a 27inch i would imagine are close to the 29inch UW haven't checked the math on that one though,

After thinking more about it i guess this idea is the same as Linus saying that even if a game doesn't support UW you can just play at 1920x1080 with black bars.  just kind of the opposite but i think that the Price of 21:9 compared to 16:9 it would be better just to use a 16:9 to play at 21:9 if i make any sense with this thread. it  Seems like you can get 2560x1440 32inch monitors around 450-500 and 2560x1080 34inch at the same price

No. A 31" 1440p monitor doing 2560x1080 would be about a 27" 2560x1080 monitor.

Looking more into it seems like a 32" 16:9 is just tiny bit  bigger then a 21:9 29"

This would make zero sense. You dont want cut 1/4 of your screen just to get that ratio. 21:9 are for a reason 34".
