Ok, first off, I know the 7950 beats the 760 in performance. However, I was set on the 7950 for my build but now I'm having second thoughts. The 7950 is getting kind of old and the 760 was just released and I'm a bit worried about driver support. Can anyone give me some info on how much longer the 7950 will be supported driver-wise? I'm looking at the 760 right now just because it is newer.

Also, the 9000 series is not an option. Not only will it be out of my price range, I also don't want to wait for it to release.

I'm not sure when driver support for the 7950 would stop but it is and would simply continue to be more powerful than the 760 probably regardless of how good drivers might get for the 760.

Well first I can tell you that AMD drivers usually support 1-2 generations behind so you are good for drivers. Also the 9000 series should totally be an option as it will be out in like a month to month and a half which isn't that long. Also why wouldn't it be in your price range, they make cards for the entire price range......................................... This means if you have 250-300$ to spend then there will definitely be a card for you in the 9000 series.

7950 old? Older cards still perform well. It all depends on what you want to do with it. If apart from gaming you want to video edit/render and use those CUDA cores go with Nvidia. If you still didnt bought the cards and only think about 760 vs 7950 then 760 is in newer technology and draw less power and got physicX over faster 7950 without it. If you want card that draw less power, is newer and got PhysicX and Cuda -> 760 and if more powerful -> 7950.

But to be honest - Age means nothing between those two.

Yes, sure I could buy a a card in the 9000 series. However, assuming that release prices will be about the same, I'd end up with a 9850. Will it be as good as a 7950, no one knows for sure. It'd also delay me from getting rid of this Core2Duo with integrated graphics for another 2 to 3 months.

7950 and overclock it. I would get the Sapphire Dual-X 7950 since this card has a great cooler and it is a great overclocking card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202026

I'd get the twin frozr for $5 more imo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127667&Tpk=twin%207950

No you would more than likely be able to afford a 9870 which is going to have more fully featured cards than a 7950/9950. I mean the obvious choice is the 7950 between the 760 but you should really think it through buying a 7950 instead of waiting. If you do decide to just go with the 7950 I recommend the MSI twin frozr 3 as that his the card I have and I love it, overclocks like a beast and has awesome cooling.

Yep its also a good choice. Using this card in my build and it is not loud when it is at load imo and it keeps my gpu at around 60C when it is on load using auto fan settings.

neither of those two cards a bad choice, but you can get a 7950 for $30 cheaper than a 760 right now and 760's haven't dropped in price at all yet so you'd be paying full msrp, or more.  Don't worry about driver support, people with 4850's still get some driver support.

The 7950 is a much better deal at this moment. It's going to be more powerful than the 760 no-matter how good the Nvidia drivers will be in the future. And as said above it comes with free games with their "Never Settle" bundle, that should already make your decision ;D
