I feel like, for a $1000 dollar futureproof build, I should go with the Skylake architecture. I want the motherboard, RAM, storage, power supply, case, and CPU cooler to be as futureproof as possible. In terms of the processors, I don't really mind as long as they are good and not super-duper expensive (350+ dollars) expensive. I feel like go with a Z170 motherboard, since it will last me quite a while until Gen 7 comes out or it is just ridiculously outdated.

Since PCPartPicker is currently down, and if 4:45 central time is what I think it is, I am not going to be able to use it for the rest of the day, so sorry.

CPU - i5 6600k (maybe something cheaper will do)

Cooler - Corsair H60 (will last me ages and ages and ages)

Motherboard - MSI Z170 PC Mate (not sure what good budget Z170 motherboards there are (Less than $150))

Ram - Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4-2133 2x4 Kit

Storage - WD 1TB, BX100 250gb SSD

Case - S340 (Black)

PSU - EVGA G2 750W Fully-Modular 80+ Gold

GPU - Any R9 390 (thinking Sapphire Nitro, if it stays in stock to match my all black build)

So what do you think? Any future proofing suggestions are highly appreciated. The only things I really want to have to swap out are the processors, and adding another kit of ram. Since I am not that old, and can't legally get a job, I am going to be pinching my pennies and selling all my stuff for this PC when the time comes so give your best advice. :D

First thing off, you can't future proof anything.

You should use PC Part Picker next time.

Well... how long do you want it to last? Also, I'd go with an h80i for cooler instead. As well, I would go with a 150 dollar mobo. More usb ports, more pcie x1 slots. Tend to support 2 way sli and 3 way cf, just better. They all have usb 3.1 gen 2, something most 100 dollar ones don't have. As well, a few have type c though I don't know why you would need that on a pc xD.

well sorrehhh i didn't know what xpoint was. i had to go do the research myself.

There's no such thing as future proofing. but your build will last you a good 3 years minimum. depending on the games you play and the settings you find tolerable.

I'm going to upgrade between that time, but i don't want to have to upgrade EVERYTHING in a year when DDR3 and Haswell become obsolete. I want to utilize my products for as long as possible before I pay for new ones.

Also try the corsiar spec 03 for the case. Got more fan ports for round the same price. If you want better 200r or 300r are good too.

If you actually read the whole post I mention I am expecting to upgrade CPU and GPU kind of frequently. Probably once a year or maybe a year and a half.

Well... how long do you want it to last? Also, I'd go with an h80i for cooler instead. As well, I would go with a 150 dollar mobo. More usb ports, more pcie x1 slots. This mobo actually has 3 x1 slots which will probably never get occupied. I dont need a soundcard, have ethernet, and I can't think of anything else that goes there. Ik this mobo supports only 2x crossfire, but itll do. And I am actually surprised because this mobo has 4 USB 3.1 gen 1 and 2 gen 2. I thought it was a pretty good deal and I am trying to find ways to prove myself wrong. But thanks for good advice :D

Edit: owait pci ssds. i forgot one.

That´s the wrong Tactic. When you upgrade, do it right. Will you safe Money in the long run.

Ik yeah but i fell in love with that nzxt case tho .~. I am not doing water cooling in the next 10 years so i dont need fan ports for that but you weren't expecting me to anyway so yeah... I am probably only ever going to have 4 fans in that case anyway but thanks again man. And also I see on amazon the h80 cooler is $90, which is a bit expensive, but on newegg. holy crap 333 dollars111!!1!!one!!!eleven!!!

Well yeah maybe a year is a bit frequent but like i said i dont have money to throw around and i will do like 10 hours of research before i buy anything lol. Also if you could tell me how to upgrade right instead of just telling me to that would be nice. :l

I only can tell you what i do. When its upgrade time for me (and i only upgrade Parts that need to be upgraded) i buy the most powerfull i can get. And than i stick to it, untill its time again.

When i bought the 980Ti, i started to safe Money. When it´s time for the next GPU, i have enough Money on the side to buy the next highend Card.

The 390 should handle fine for a good bit, so don't worry about it. Just make sure everything is compatible and you should be fine for a couple of years(depending on what you find to be tolerable settings.)
