Not sure if they "hire" him but it was I think an agreement to let him create his own company that he would still help NCIX with videos.

Linus owns Linus Media Group, company which produces video content to different customers. One happens to be NCIX.

Major and most known ones are LMG own channels, LTT, TQ and CSF. But they also make video ads to brands like Intel, Asus and Func.

Linus' still has a contract with NCIX to produce videos with them every so often (once a week?).

Originally, LinusTechTips was a spin-off of NCIX Tech Tips, primarily run by Linus.

 

Later, when Linus decided to leave NCIX, he decided that he would still do some contract work for them.

 

Linus now does videos for NCIX Tech Tips, Linus Tech Tips, CSF, and TechQuickie. (The latter three are all run by LMG, Linus'es company)
