970 because sliing two cards to beat a better card has other factors besides raw performance such as stutter and limited vram (950s have 2 GB if I'm remembering correctly)

Do 950's even SLI?

Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Corsair H105, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite, Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3600MHz, EVGA RTX 3070Ti FTW3, Samsung 850 Pro / WD SN850 / OCZ Trion 150

ASUS MG279Q, Corsair Carbide 275R

always go single card over SLI when buying new - unless there is no faster single GPU solution,

or if you're going for straight up "case filling" i wont stop you from throwing away cash...

Well what about the 970 SLI vs 980. The 970 SLI is better by far and SLI isn't half bad anymore. But a single 970 is better.

you're forgetting that 970 SLI is way more pricy than 980.

This build will not overclock. If you are planning on running any newer titles at least get a 970. SLI comes with some issues and its not worth the price to performance on a 950. If you are going to get a 970 get a better PSU.

970, but get a different PSU and a 390.

More like a 390X, the 390 only wins in its vRAM config and at higher resolutions, and lags behind at 1080p. Unlike the 390X.

I would suggest a R9 390 rather than getting a GTX 970 or SLIng GTX 950.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

Get the 970.  Just make sure to get a decent one, and you'll be happy with it's performance in 1080.

CPU: Ryzen 1600X @ 4.15ghz  MB: ASUS Crosshair VI Mem: 32GB GSkill TridenZ 3200
GPU: 1080 FTW PSU: EVGA SuperNova 1000P2 / EVGA SuperNova 750P2  SSD: 512GB Samsung 950 PRO
HD: 2 x 1TB WD Black in RAID 0  Cooling: Custom cooling loop on CPU and GPU  OS: Windows 10

You want at least 4gb of VRAM these days and 950s SLI will only get you 2GB.

It will run games well, but you'll never be able to use High Res Textures or Ultra Settings.

Yeah I guess that's true. I probably should have waited for the more equally priced 980ti but then again it released almost a year after. I'm happy with my SLI 970. SLI looks better too :)
