Which would you choose for high end gaming (ultra 4k baby), with {future} MSI Lightning 980ti SLI gpu's :

I'd...go with a 4790k at the moment. Once Skylake gets a bit cheaper (and I can afford enough DDR4 to satisfy my needs), a 6700k.

Also there's X99 now with the 5820k and 5930k and 5960x and DDR4 support and stuff!

Sig under construction.

Well yes. But what's the cost difference. There's 400 between the one's i mentioned..and they start with a 4 not a 5 ;-; that's a whole new level

If you're gaming there's no real need to go to an enthusiast platform.

Go with a 4790k or 6700k if you want an i7 or the 4690k or 6600k respectively if you want an i5 which should be fine in most titles with 2 980Tis.

The cost difference depends on where you are.

Yes, but i'm pretty much sold on a 4930K (the 5820k is a downgrade, a least on paper) and idk if my build will work with it...ill have to change ram too

5820K is Haswell-E supports DDR4, 4930K is Ivy Bridge-E and runs on DDR3. How is 5820K a downgrade to the 4930K? X99 just counting the Core i7s, starts out at 6 cores and end with 8 cores. X79 starts out at 4 cores and ends with 6 cores. Already have a X79 then just grab the cpu. No point of going towards either platforms.

Because its base clock is .1 lower, and turbo speed is .3 lower? Because the cache is 8mb, compared to the 12 the 4930k has. because unless you find me 32gb of ram at 2400mhz at close to the same price of mine it just doesnt seem worth it.

5820K has 15MB of L3 cache, where do you see 8MB?

So, looking at intel's website you're right, I must have been looking at some other stupid thing;

however while I absolutely love the idea of upgrading (I like the absolute best..I just cant afford it lol)

the 650$ price tag of the ddr4 memory is absolutely killer. And I havent even looked at the price difference between the x79 and the x99..

What are you talking about and where the hell are you looking at?

32GB of DDR4 2400 is less than $200 bucks.  $175 to be exact. Did not see that X99 build in the spoiler?
