2 r9 290 or 2 titan

mariobros
Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

the first one not X or black

still faster than R9 290 and more VRAM, titan all the way man.

indeed, i wouldnt trade my 780 for a 290, but i would for a titan, hands down!

Tru.

I bought a 780 Lightning awhile back, if it would of had samsung/hynix mems on it I would of kept it, it was doing close to 1400 on air O.o

Had elpida mems tho, they couldn't OC for shit :/

I wanted to get a second one but meh.. :(

...the titan's are also worth a lot more money i see them going for 380-420$ around here and the 290 are 200$ GPU's...so for resell value the titans are a much better investment as well.

I saw the titans on EVGA's B-Stock for around $300 recently. To me, they're not that worth it compared to the 970 that can be had for $250.

i do have hynix memory on mine, but the core won't go any higher than 1225mhz...my card has a power limit of only 103% and i think that's why...it's sad cause it does not even get hot i barely reach 68c under full load with only 60% fanspeed on air :( it could take 112% easily and then i could probably get 1300mhz+ the core is 79% asic and run real cool!

i'm not thinking about going SLI with it though...3GB is just not enough. (having a 6GB titan in there though, i would be running SLI already for sure!)

NVIDIOT detected, thread integrity has been compromised!

Show me AMD consistently and reliably having better drivers than Nvidia.

Does AMD have an equal or better equivalents for all of Nvidia's extra features?

Aside from that the TITAN is a little bit faster than the 290 in some cases, (obviously there are exceptions.)

I sense a quickfire post without much thought.  "thread integrity has been compromised!"

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.

If primarily for gaming then definitely 2 290s. The kepler cards have just aged far worse than hawaii. Even a stock 290 is faster than a 780ti/Titan in newer games like gta 5. Kepler is dead

start listening at 1:20...look at AMD DX11 drivers how bad they are and how much CPU overhead they require to run well...and this is a R7 360...imagine what it can be with a 290/390/390X etc...you basicaly need a very powerful GPU because AMD drivers suck balls:

you smoke way too much son:

(ALSO look at terrible AMD drivers performance with the core i3 illustred AGAIN in this video too)

as you can see EVEN with a core i3-4130 and 780ti you get better performance than the i7-4790K and R9 290...that says A LOT!

You do know that different review sites have different numbers for benchmarks? Look at the most recent reviews for 300 series which use the latest version of GTA 5 and drivers. Kepler is FAR behind the 290x and 390x. And Titan is same as 290 at stock clocks. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_radeon_r9_390x_gaming_8g_oc_review,13.html

i consider DigitalFoundry's real time monitored testing to be fairly relevant to be honest...more accurate and un-biaised than an AMD GPU review like the one you linked...they always test those cards in the best circumstances and then trow old numbers for the other cards.

To the guy with the gtx 780. You must be a real idiot to use an Nvidia game's day one performance to compare AMD and Nvidia. I bet witcher 3 performance still hasn't been fixed for you.

and in how many games out there does a titan perform noticeably better than a R9 290? how many to do you think?

also, you guys usualy are quick about the ''R9 390 has more VRAM than the GTX 970'' what about the 6GB titan vs 4GB R9 290?

What about features? power consumption? drivers? softwares?

But those are not the Titans in question. The ones the OP is looking at are G1s. To my understanding.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

The r9 290 was never meant to compete with the titan. When it was hawaii vs kepler the Titan was 2x the cost of the r9 290. However kepler is no longer Nvidia's main focus while the 290 uses the same architecture as AMD's flagship midranged card. Also crossfire typically has better scaling then sli. For video rendering Titans are still better. But for gaming, which is more driver based, the r9 290 will win and have better support. Correction: If the cards are the same price then definitely 2 Titans. Its honestly like getting 2 Titan Xs over 2 980tis when you are talking about resale value. My bad. Op could easily sell wc Titans and get 980s if they wanted to.

no he found a pair of watercooled R9 290 and a pair of watercooled vanilla titans for about the same price...the choice is OBVIOUS.

right, they never did, and they never will

I'm not seeing a price, and "about" is a subjective measurement. Could be a killer deal on Titans and 290s at their normal price. Which right now is insane. I know because I went to get a second, and didn't when I saw the price. (sapphire)
