upgrade advise needed

Go to solution Solved by App4that,

Everyone is AMD crazy because they have the newest GPU's. 4g of Vram is a good amount right now, could change in a year but no way of knowing that. 4g might be overkill in a year. The R9 2xx GPUs are proven, but because they are no longer made are expensive in many regions. The 3xx AMDs offer great performance for the money in many regions, but in my opinion are not proven yet. The Nvidea 9xx GPUs are proven and in some regions competitive in price to the AMDs. I went with a 290 because it's a proven platform and bought it before the price increase even though the 390 was already out. If I was to buy today I would consider the 970.

Re there any issues with this processor

Intel Core I5 4690K Processor 3.50Ghz 6MB Cache SKT 1150

you have an H81 motherboard which won't support overclocking...so i suggest you go with the i5-4460...update your motherboard BIOS to make sure it will support the haswell refresh CPU BEFORE you get rid of the core i3 though.

A good match for the i5-4460 would be an R9 380 or R9 390 or GTX 970...you could also look for a used GTX 780 or something like that...if you have less budget then that find used or new AMD R9 280/280X or HD7950/7970 they are all the same shit, they work well enough for 1080p gaming when paired with a good processor.

Is this a OK card as All i realy want is to play the new need for speed and some other games does not have to be Ultra or 4K quality

Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 960 OC WF2 Edition 4GB Graphics Card

it's pretty decent but if you are shopping for a motherboard, a CPU and a graphics card might as well give us your budget and the places you are shopping at and we can recommend something that will be compatible and have good performance at good cost?

I would need full specs for what you already own...what parts you need to order and what budget you have.

Only it you're getting a screaming deal on it. The Z97 board is worth the little extra cast in my opinion.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

no that were I get stuck do I wait and see what comes out or how the 650 performs or do i just build a new rig basically. I have had no issues with Nvidia they well in my case have always been good but I was a AMD fan until a unfortunate accident

I always tell people this. If you are getting a card from a brand you dislike due to something something. You will hate the card. Even if out performs the competitor, you will hate it. Even if there's not a problem in the card, you will hate it.

In the case of driver support. There's not much of a difference. Both have their problems and what not. Nvidia churns out driver updates more than AMD and AMD fixes a hell load of shit at each driver update.

In the case of longevity I'll have to give it to AMD. The benchmarks online show it. For example the 290. It used to slot between the 780 and 770. Now in newer games, it's either on par or outperforms the 780 and slowly creeping up to the 970.

In the case of the 960, the 380 plainly outperforms it. But if you don't like the brand, you will not be satisfied. If this is the case, get the 960 G1 and you're done. OC the 960 and you'll get the stock performance of the 380.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case
