380X, is it coming?

Does anyone have any news regarding the 380X and whether or not it is legit? I've seen the images that were leaked of the supposed XFX card but has it been legitimately announced? and do we know the price it will be?

From the sounds of it, it's just speculation for now.

There's no pressure on them to release it.

yup, seeing as they are wrecking Nvidia in the most important segment, being the 960 and 970 price range. They are golden...

 

They could potentially dump the price on the 380 down a notch to compete with the 950 (pure slaughter) and launch a 380X to simply demolish the 960... but i dun think they need to do that.

Well WCCFTech says it's coming... so probably not.

 

I think if AMD wanted to release the R9 380X (Tonga XT?) they would've already done so quite awhile ago. Considering they released the entire lineup (save for the HBM cards) all at once, it's really unlikely that they'll release any more models at price points where they don't really need to... I mean you've got the R9 380 at about $220 and the 4GB version at about $240, and then you've got the R9 390 which is SUBSTANTIALLY better at around $330.

 

I don't think they feel it's worth bridging the gap between the R9 380 and R9 390 since they'd probably cut into 390 sales.
