Should I get an UPS?

Hey.

 

Currently around where I live new buildings are being constructed, I've received a notice saying that electricity, water, heat, etc might be cut off for short periods of times.

 

Is it worth investing in an UPS? Or are there better alternatives for just having the computer safely shut off when the electricity is cut?

 

What I want to avoid is my computer getting corrupted/damage to my components.

 

 

Appreciate any advice!

A UPS is never a bad investment espically if you have frequent power outages or unstable power, not to mention having internet/wifi when the power is out in your area.

Could be helpful. In addition to the sudden loss of power, it can help protect from brownouts. Just keep in mind, while they usually have surge protection, it's not much.

A ups is a good option especially if power fluctuations/ outages are common in your area, I really can't think of another alternative for intemittent power failure, you might want to see if any ups you can get has good surge guard as @MourningSouls said, as surges are also common when the power grid is being worked on

It conditions the electricity going into your PC making the parts live longer and reducing load off transistors in the PSU. Yes get one. PS you legit have all the same system specs

I would probably say something like this would be more than needed, going down one step to the 650W model though might be cutting it close if your system was running at full load, note at full load it will only last a few mins so you would want to save your work and shut down or have it doing less demanding tasks.

I am sure if you get a PSU that is about 50W-100W+ to how much you actually use you won't need a UPS. But you can always get a surge protector if you are worried about losing power.

Unless you have a REALLY expensive set up or do really important work on your computer(s), I don't really think it would be a good investment. Save yourself the money and just buy a decent surge protector. 

My setup isn't really that expensive. Compared to the other people on here. And I don't really do any important work on my computer. Thanks!

 

EDIT: Would a surge protector really be of use to me? I just don't want my components damaged if there's a sudden power loss which there might be as there's construction going on in my area. Or am I being too paranoid and nothing will happen to my system if the power was abruptly cut?
