HTPC; What CPU?

I want to make a cheap as possible HTPC so I am thinking either a new Celeron or a Pentium if I can get one for about £30.

Or I could go for an AMD GPU such as the A6-6400K which is still only about £40

 

Any suggestions?

Celeron is pretty good for it's low power. i would go with that for a HTPC. also you don't need a GPU if you just use it for playback.

It will just be to watch TV programmes on Chrome so won't need to be too powerful really.

Maybe a pentium on its own using integrated. Or a secondhand gpu if possible

well.. for 720p30 a raspberry pi suffices for a HTPC.

 

you could pretty much get the cheapest thing you can find to put in your htpc.

Maximum resolution will be 1080p streaming through a chromecast most of the time.

I could probably get hold of a r7 240 for £30, might be a bit too much though.

 

I could always just get the Pentium then if needed I can add the GPU later on.
