SLI ?

I just got asked by my friend , can he run a gtx 970 and a gtx 980 ti in sli.

but to be honest im not sure , can someone clarify this for me ?

You can't SLI cards that aren't the exact same.

only 2 970 or 2 980 ti would work, not 970 and 980ti together.

Nvidia - you need to have 2 cards which are exactly the same - down to the very last grain of dust.

AMD - you can CrossFire them so long as the GPU core is the same - memory amount, memory type, clocks - doesn't matter. Hell - in some cases even generation doesn't matter.
