Use PCPartPicker.com

Tons of AAA games do not use more then 4 cores and the ones that do, do not do it very well. Also, at higher resolutions CPUs become less dependant, for example, a FX8350 would not bottleneck a 980Ti at 2160p. Also, what is the exact budget? Games, do not need more then 8GBa of RAM, however, I suggest atleast 16GBs since you can afford it and games are starting to use more then 8 ect ect.

Don't fucking throw the most expensive parts you can in there. You're only gaming you only need 4 cores. Not 8.

3x 3440x1440, Go for 3-Way 980Ti since he can obviously afford it.. Unless he decides 4k but ultrawide at 3440x1440 would be pretty cool.
