Looks good.  Just get an EVGA B2 PSU instead and maybe an i3 to save money.  YOu could also get an H97 board since you can't overclock.

Yeah probably overkill if he just does word excel and browsing.. Grab an intel nuc 8gb of ram and a 120/128 or 240/250/256gb ssd and call it a day.

Edit: actually that would not have an optical drive.

Hmmm where to start.

I'd drop down to an i3. Stock cooler is fine.

Does he even need a graphics card? I doubt it. Chop that out of there as well.

Get a B85 board. Or H81. Why on earth do you have an expensive Z board in there?

The extra case fans are pointless.

There. From 770 pound to 440 pound.

I'd even consider getting a 240GB SSD and forgetting the mechanical storage. I'm just not sure how much space he needs or if he stores music/pictures.

If your father is going to be doing nothing but Word, Excel, and internet derping, then the cheapest prebuilt you find will work. Buy and install an SSD if he won't need the HDD space.

When you're on a budget, building a system with an AMD CPUs works fine, but when you're on an extreme budget or if it's never going to do much more than Youtube, then you can't get much cheaper than a prebuilt.

Unless you want the PC building practice or want a PC that's easily upgradable, there's really no reason to go out and build it.

Adults are just kids with bigger wallets.

That seems like complete overkill.

I'd look into a NUC, or perhaps a dust proof NUC, or an all in one fanless PC.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Its overkill for office etc.

If you go used you could just scavange an old core 2 duo or quad pc for 50 bucks, put it in a niceish case for 50 bucks and stuff in a ssd for another 75 bucks and call it a day.

The total would be only 1/5 of the price and perform pretty much the same.
