Hi,

I recently installed my components into my new case the NZXT H440. I mounted my HDD onto the included rubber mounts and it stills make so much noise. It is louder then the fans! Everything is silent but the HDD. Any queries?

Regards,

John Kovac

which hdd do u have?

I obviously know that. I'm not looking to buy a new HDD, I'm here to fix the problem.. If i wanted to just buy a new one I would...

well if an HDD is making noise there is nothing you can do about it other than deal with it or replace it...

you cant open up an HDD and just take the noise out :P

Right, I'm just trying to look for tips. Like the rubber plates was a good idea, but just not working for me.

Some unknown brand. Picked it up about a few years ago.

I'd just replace it with a WD or Seagate drive.

u can wrap it in cloth, it might shut the hdd up, but heat will be a problem. also why not just buy a new one. hdd are so inexpensive nowadays. I have 2 seagate barracudas running in raid 0, and they're dead silent

~snip~

Hey there JohnKovac,

I would get a tool and check the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status and see if the drive performs properly at all. I'd also make sure nothing is resonating with the case and that all the screws and mountings are properly and firmly in their place. Loud drive can be a sign that it's about to fail for one reason or another so I'd consider backing the important data from it elsewhere.
Cloning it is one way to transfer your OS and data to another drive. :)
