THANK YOU. Fing lockdown drills are the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Why the F**k does it make sense to all ball up in a corner when there is a gunman? That's just makes it easier, run around, try to disarm him, dont hide in a corner or under a desk 

Here's a fun story from elementary school and my first lock down drill. To start off I had no idea what a lock down was and the principal forgot to mention it was a drill.

 

Intercom comes on and I hear the voice say some shit like "Attention students and staff, we are under lock down." I see everyone rush to the designated corner of the room, my fellow students crying and me confused as the teacher locks the door, covers the window on the door and turns out the lights. I simply ask WTF is going on. She tells me it means a bad guy with a weapon is in the school. Imagine my shock that the course of action is to cower in a corner of the room when he knows where we are.

 

I decide that that's fucking retarded. I grab my bag, pack up my stuff, open and jump out the 1st story window and proceed to leg it to the tree line 50 yards away. Once I'm there I begin legging it home. When I get home my mother is on the phone with a very furious teacher and principal at me for "Putting everyone's life potentially in danger" and saying what I did was "stupid and childish." When questioned by my parents why I did what I did I simply said "What they did is the kind of stuff that gets more people killed."

 

Then my parents laughed and basically told the principal to eat shit.

I like Ben Carson. He is not my favorite politician but he is far from the bottom of my list. He is right that you are better off trying to resist than just standing there getting shot, but his delivery left more than a little lacking. 

 

FWIW, I have a CCW and have a gun on me 99% of the time. I do not support the laws preventing concealed weapons of campuses.

It's a felony in my state to even have a knife on you on a campus.

 

Funny enough every 3-5 days someone gets robbed at knife or gun point on said campus so look how well that works.

Not true in the slightest. You think a criminal, hell bent on murdering a school of children, is going to stop and think about how the law prevents him access to guns? To kill people?

Of course we would have the largest gun crime. Our country's population makes up the majority of gun owners in the world. This image doesn't work as you intended it to. Gun violence is actually a lot smaller than you are refusing to acknowledge. In the U.S, we have far more deaths by knives (nearly 5x the amount by account of the FBI's statistics in '10-11), strangulation (by wire and hand) and car crashes than we do in relation to violence with guns (self defense does not count). Should we start banning knives, or enforcing stricter knife laws because the crime is "rampant" or because some crazy moonbrain can access that "weapon"?

 

Only the naive think more gun laws or stricter ones (or taking weapons from innocent citizens) will stop these incidents. All it will do is take weapons from the citizens that own their weapons legally, remove our American rights and put power in the criminals who are the problem (and the government).

But it wouldn't make it harder for him to do it. It would just make it harder for citizens to legally obtain their guns. What needs to happen is the country enforcing our current gun laws as well as looking harder into the mental health of people looking to purchase a weapon. We don't need to rip apart our American rights or punish citizens for the actions of a minority.

 

So what? I can mow down a ton of people in a car in a minute if I wanted to, does that mean cars should be banned or given stricter laws too? I could also kill a buttton of people in a minute with a nail gun or any power tool. Just because something can happen doesn't mean we should react so extremely as if it constantly happens. And you must not have heard of a killer using a knife like a pro before then...you can kill a ton of people with a knife in a minute, especially if they aren't armed.

Because more laws don't stop criminals from accessing their guns. Most of them get their weapons illegally in the first place. If they don't follow current laws, or the people who give out the weapons carelessly don't follow these laws, more laws aren't going to stop them or make it harder. And that's just accounting for the criminals who buy guns from shops or wal-mart. Factor in the street gang violence and where they get their weapons from, and you know it won't help anything.

 

The best solution is to impose our current laws and pay closer attention to the mental health of our citizens...and stop glorifying their actions on media. The solution definitely doesn't exist in the hard left "suggestions".
