5820k vs 6700k

I'd go with the 5820k if you live near microcenter it's like $300 for the 5820k and $329 for a 6700k

 

Agreed. I bought mine through Staples online, and was able to get it for $286 after shipping and tax. Staples will price match Microcenter's price, even for an online transaction.

 

It was purchased over the Labor Day holiday weekend, so not sure if that had anything to do with the huge price difference.

Before anyone starts I have watched the 6700k vs 5820k on vessel from Luke.

 

I just had a couple extra queries, how much less editing performance in Premiere and After Effects would I get the 6700k as a pose to the 5820k when editing 4K? Would this make the 20% lower price and significantly cheaper motherboards a better option?

If the prices are indeed cheaper, then go for the 6700K but where i live the an X99 build is the same price as a Z170 build and in that case a 5820K would be what i recommend.

Rendering performance wise a 5820K would be ~10% faster however gaming would yield ~10% lower fps (on avg) but you do benefit if you stream (with a 5820K). As for motherboards, the prices vary on where you live, but most cheap-ish Z170 boards have USB 3.1 type C while having the same port on an X99 motherboard MAY come at a premium. You do however get more PCIe lanes on X99 which would be optimal for dual GPU + m.2 setups or simply single GPU and multiple M.2 ssd (raid 0?) setups.

Skylake is more future proof but then again with that many cores do you really ever need to upgrade? :P

the I7-5820k has 6 cores but they are slower at 3.3 GHz and the I7-6700k has 4 cores at a faster speed of 4.0GHz... so even though the I7-5820k might be considered a 'better / higher end' CPU, unless you plain on utilizing all 6 of the 5820ks cores... the 6700k might still be a better choice...

Why would people keep quoting the stock clock of a "K" CPU. You're buying a "K" processor and not overclocking them, come on?? In general the 6700K can do 4.7-4.8GHz and 5820K @ 4.5GHz. This comparison makes more sense.

they can both be overclocked... i dont have either one of these to know what they can be over clocked to (so i didnt put those numbers in there), but even over clocked the 6700k is still faster then the 5820k, which was the only point i was trying to make...

yeah i got sucked into the 6-core CPU hype myself lol!!! i love my I7-3930k even if i probably dont come anywhere close to utilizing the full potential of it...

Why would people keep quoting the stock clock of a "K" CPU. You're buying a "K" processor and not overclocking them, come on?? In general the 6700K can do 4.7-4.8GHz and 5820K @ 4.5GHz. This comparison makes more sense.

 

I would say 4.5-4.7, I'm barely seeing any 4.8 24/7 stable 6700k's on hwbot and OCN, even here. 

Even Siliconlottery is having problems binning them.

also on the other hand... to bad they dont have any 6 cores for the z170 platform either lol...

I'd go with the 5820k if you live near microcenter it's like $300 for the 5820k and $329 for a 6700k

 

Agreed. I bought mine through Staples online, and was able to get it for $286 after shipping and tax. Staples will price match Microcenter's price, even for an online transaction.

 

It was purchased over the Labor Day holiday weekend, so not sure if that had anything to do with the huge price difference.
