How to use Blender 3D Modeling program?

Hey. I'm starting to make guns again in 3D models. I've been using sketch-up which is okay for making it but cannot do rounded edges or extreme detail quickly (real pain to do in sketch up). I would do blender but I have no flipping  clue how to use it. I've made a g17,mac10,halfway barret 50 cal, and starting a mk14 ebr mod 0. I want to make better quality models, I've been told blender is better but as I said before I have no idea how to use it. Anyone got a quick tutorial or a different program recommendation? Thanks.

Will post pictures of current models if requested.

On YouTube, Andrew Price aka Blender Guru, he also has his own site blenderguru.com, also on YT tutor4u has some simpler animations.

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

"Quick" and "learning Blender" are two things that generally don't go together very well. Due to the fact that the User Interface is far from intuitive, you'll need some time to learn where things are. I'd do a few tutorials (Tutor4U on Youtube is pretty good for that) to learn the UI. Depending on what form of learning you prefer, you could also read the documentation or have a look if there are courses for it on Lynda.com

If you want to dig a bit deeper, then Blenderguru (on YT or .com) is a pretty good option.

well first of all, it takes a long time to learn blender, longer than sketchup

second, you will not learn how to use blender from reading posts on a forum

go look up blender tutorials on youtube and follow them yourself

and finally, it takes me like 3 seconds to make a curved edge in sketchup

maybe you should work on improving your sketchup skills instead of completely switching to a different program?

Digital tutors has good stuff compared to Lynda in terms of 3D work. This coming from someone who subbed Lynda for months learning zbrush then switched to DT because it had better quality tutes.
My advice as a user of Blender daily: Hotkeys. Learn em asap.
A few things that pop right up:
Tab for edit mode.
5 to switch between perspective and orthographic viewport. Other num keys for viewport snap.
A to select or deselect all.
S for scale.
B plus drag to select stuff.
C in edit mode to brush select.
Ctrl F for faces menu in edit
Ctrl E for Edge menu in edit. - Good for adding sharp edges if you want to work in smooth shader.
Subsurface modifer + Edges creasing is your friend, you will find Crease in the N menu, select an edge and add a crease level to sharpen things for hardsurface modelling.
W for 'specials

Cycles render is great, learn it to start with and you'll have an easier time moving into other software.
Background image insert can also be found in the N menu, along with useful stuff like backface culling and dimensional/spacial modifiers.

Sorry, late here, brain fried. Good luck!
Middle mouse click to move around? Yeah, thats useful.

Andrew price is great, but not the best for learning the basics of hardsurface.

"The wheel?" "No thanks, I'll walk, its more natural" - thus was the beginning of the doom of the Human race.

Its similar to programming in the best way to learn is just go for a project, however youtube has some very good tutorials. I suggest you watch speedmodeling and cycles tutorial videos. Also the space key brings up a list of action in case you can't remember the hotkey

Well not really curved edge thats not the right word for it. A sphere on it. Like a rounded edge on all sides of a cube.

Like this (made on blender)

320px-Round_cube_Rounded_Cube_Corners.jp

I cant round a corner like that all the way only on one side of sketchup based on the way the program works. I will post pics of previous models on sketchup if you care to look.

im not seeing where this is. Is this on pro version?

this one is a plugin, I think it might be only for layout, not Make

but heres a tutorial on how to do it in Make

-snip-

Neat but besides the point. As i'm about to post the image of my current works (minus the mk14 ebr mod 0 since its not much more than the handle currently) you'll be able to notice some things not exactly how they should such as finger grooves and the whole mac 10 wire stock gone. If you'd like i can upload the files so you can look more at them. So I'm going to try to switch to blender regardless.

this is the 50 cal its still a wip

mac 10 which suffers quite a bit from not being able to have rounded things easily accessible

And my original gun which went on to become the glock 17
