cpu overclock check

im running a hyper 212x on a 4690k at 4.7 ghz atm, 1.3v. Idle temps are about 44-45 and on 3d firestrike 1080p load avg about 58-62, physx test peaked 78 degrees, 74 if i take my side panel off. Are these safe temps or should i stop running 4.7 ghz? How much of a difference would i see in games in terms of fps, games like witcher 3,crysis 3, games like that. i know in arma 3 its really cpu intensive.

Yeah there fine. Anything above 80 is a bit worrying for lifespam.

In Witcher 3 or Crysis 3 I didn't notice any real framerate increase when I went over 4.0Ghz with my 4670k. Those two are more GPU dependent than most. Obviously they smooth out a bit, but definitely not a huge performance boost like overclocking your GPU.

In fact I noticed more diminishing returns the higher I went. I found a good plateau around 4.3ish which balanced my temperatures too when I was using the 212. 78 is quite high, Haswell will live at that temp, but personally I get uncomfortable with anything over 65C-70C.

4.7 at 1.3v is really impressive though. Wish I had a 4690k, my 4670k dislikes anything higher than 4.5 and even then it likes to become unstable after a while.

I might eventually upgrade my CPU cooler to a kraken x61/41
