Can I connect 2 monitors to a bluray player?

edgar101084

It will probably not work because of hdcp, residential blu ray player rarely supports more than one monitor even thru a splitter or video distribution system

What is HDCP?

What is HDCP?

That is the name for the DRM in bluray players I was mentioning that make sure they are connected to actual screens

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

No I don't think so... and even if you could, it would be really bad cause video isn't created for two monitors (really wide and not tall) and you would have black bars on both left and right of the setup because it wouldn't support such a resolution.

I like Computer Stuffs. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it in again? Automation Expert (Bots, scripts, etc)! Add me on Xbox Live: JollyPlanet449 And on Steam!: Baxtmann Wanshow.tips is a cool place too

I think maybe you skipped over part of this thread - the idea is to use an HDMI splitter to show the same image on both monitors

I think the best option would be to ask if they have any of the splitters we discussed before that support HDCP.

If not, there's really just two options:

  1. Buy one, and if it doesn't work, take it back
  2. Just don't bother with any of this

Hdcp or high definition copy protection encrypts the video and audio streams between the source(blu-ray), repeaters (av receiver) and sink (monitors), normally a typical blu-ray player supports 1 encryption key from the sink, so for your case your blu ray player (source) checks the splitter (repeaters) what monitors (sink)are connected to it, for 2 monitors you need a source that supports 2 encryption key if your device supports only 1 key it will block the hdmi output. The number Hdcp key supported by a source is normally not documented in the specs. Just for your information a nvidia and amd videocard supports 16 keys or 16 sinks, the maximum of hdcp 1.0 is 128 keys. Hdcp 2.0 with hdmi 2.0 is another story

Can I check if my bluray player has the capacity for 2 keys?

I can send you the model if you like.

Can I check for me?

Like i said this information is not available for the public eyes however on a old document from 2010 that i found typical samsung blu-ray players supports between 7 to 16 keys so it may work, make sure your splitter supports hdcp (sould be on the specs). If we have a black screen on both monitors try disconnecting one and restart the player if it works than your player supports only 1 key. If it doesn't work on 1 screen than your splitter doesn't support hdcp, make sure the firmware for your blu-ray player is up to date... Best of luck
