Need help choosing a new monitor !

Chasie

Hello everyone !

I have a GTX 980 Ti G1 with a very old 60hz monitor.

I would like to have more fps while playing my games. ( currently my fps goes down to 20 ~ 35 when there is like 50 players spamming skills beside me ) and I would like to increase my fps and have a very smooth gameplay

Should i get a 144hz monitor or a 144hz monitor with G-sync ?

That's not how fps work. May I ask what game it is you're playing?

MapleStory2 KR

I don't believe that's a GPU intensive game (could be wrong). What CPU are you running?

FPS is dictated primarily by the performance of your GPU and but games such as ARMA, CPU plays a key role.

A quick explenation on how Hertz and FPS work:

Your system puts out a certain amount of frames per second (FPS). For example 100.
This number depends on your PC and the software you're running. The only thing that we know about your PC yet is that it has a 980Ti and the Software in this case is MapleStory2.

A monitor with a refresh rate of 60 Hertz (Hz) asks 60 times in a second for a new picture. So if you're creating 100 frames per second while your monitor is only asking for 60 frames a second, then you'll lose 40 frames. If you have a monitor with a refresh rate of 100 (Hz) or higher you can make full use of those 100 FPS that your PC outputs.

In your case a new monitor wouldn't make any sense, because your refresh rate (Hz) is already higher than the frames your PC outputs.

_______________

Now; I think you're getting such low frame rates because MapleStory2 is most likely a very CPU intensive game.
Could you tell us the rest of your specs?

The 3770K is still quite an amazing CPU, so I doubt it'll be the main issue. My last guess is that some of the setting in game are causing the game to drop to what you stated. This may take some time, but trial and error each setting starting with all them off and see which ones are causing it to tank as I am unfamiliar with the game.

Your PC is more than capable, i'd never heard of this game until now but quickly looking at it im going to guess it's a poorly optimized game resulting in bad performance no matter what PC unfortunately.

Your question about the monitor was quite funny and to answer it no it won't give you better fps.

Edit: Also you should follow your topics, it just makes it easier to keep track of whats going on in them.

Stick to the native resolution of the monitor. As for AA, find what the fps is like without it, with 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x (whichever is available) and record how much it affects the frame rate by.

Your CPU is better than mine and yet mine is newer. I promise you that your CPU is really hardcore awesome (except that power consumption though).

1. Update drivers to latest version

2. Here's the monitor I have

3. I would recommend this monitor

4. Lower your AA to FXAA it'll be fine!

I wanted one of these but it was out of my budget. Hopefully it will be in yours.

How do you have 14gb of RAM?

I'd have thought 12 or 16... 14 would be very unusual

4 slots. 3 dimms. 8, 4, 2.

If that's the case, I bet the computer probably started out with 8 and the nickel and dime upgrades came one at a time later.

I doubt it.  If they're not gonna work with each other, I'd expect the computer to blue screen and not just have low frame rates in a specific video game.

I'd still recommend turning off vertical sync if you don't like that frame rate.  That's what I'd expect with it enabled in those in-game environments.
