I don't know which cpu to choose (X99 or Skylake)!!!icon_crazy.gif I see that X99 seems to be a larger power house(Due to more cores and more GPU support), but I will most likely not be using it for things that will require more GPU's such as intense video editing. I  am more of a user that will be using my build more for browsing and some editing and gaming in there(Once and a while). I want it to be pretty fast though (With things like booting-up in general and running basic programs). Any suggestions?

PS: I am also the kind of guy that likes the new stuff lol (thats why I am more toward the skylake side currently since it just came out)

To be honest I would look into Z97 and a Core i5-4690K. Still new but a cheaper platform than Z170 or X99.

The difference in the US is only like $40 more for Z170, really no reason not to get it.

There's been a few posts lately of people tallying up the math, it's marginally more expensive and you get a new platform with more features and more performance.

If you dont need the cores go skylake.

You gonna get ultra m.2 with proper nvme support, usb 3.1 type c and the highest single core performance for gaming atm.

Compaired to x97 you gonna get little bit of extra performance for a little bit of extra money (and the new features) and compaired to x99

you still gonna save some money (and you dont need the extra cores).

Skylake for sure. Both support 4-lane M.2 ssd for much faster storage. The i7-6700K is a much higher clocked cpu than any X99 cpu. In general, better performance with lightly multi-threaded programs.

Storage speed has a big influence on boot and program load times.

A couple of suggestions for the http://pcpartpicker.com/p/snVdhM build.

Replace the Samsung 850 Pro with the Samsung SM951 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive. Will provide much faster boot and program load times.

EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR is less expensive than Corsair AX760 and arguably as good. If you want to allow for the addition of a second gpu at some point, a larger psu would be a good idea.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Thanks for the awesome suggestion. Not sure yet though if I want to go into the field of 4k just yet(But a possibility). The 4k monitor would probably come in when I see one on sale(So, separate from the budget price).

Wow haven't looked at M.2 yet. Can you explain a little more about it? Thanks!

The build is open for 390 crossfire down the road to better push 4k gaming.

As for M.2, most people don't need one over a typical standard hard drive, it's basically a PCi-e drive, though some run at m-sata speeds I believe

Wow haven't looked at M.2 yet. Can you explain a little more about it? Thanks!

The SM951 M.2 ssd uses 4 PCIe 3.0 lanes instead of a SATA III interface. According to the Hero VIII web page the motherboard M.2 socket will support transfer speeds up to 32 Gb/sec or about 5 times faster than SATA III. The higher speed means much lower boot and program load times. May also mean faster browsing and generally better system performance.
