what should i do?

It's not necessary but if you listen to FLAC files it'll sound better.

Doubtful.

I have a pair of audio technica m50x's and i love them but i was wondering if i should get an external amp and dac to go with them. As far as i know i don't have a dedicated sound card in my computer. If I should get one does anyone have any tips?  I don't really know what i need and i already stepped out of my comfort zone when buying the headphones themselves.

On a side note i was wondering if there is a way i can play my microphone audio through my headphones without the delay that microsofts program gives i have a blue snowball which is a USB condenser mic. hopefully i have given all the information you need to answer my questions.

Any help is appreciated so thanks in advanced!

The Fiio E10k is a good one.

Thank you for the recommendation but do you know if it is necessary to buy one? I mean obviously it will improve audio quality but with athm50x's would the difference be negligible or would it be worthwhile spending the money on? At this point i just want to get the most out of my headphones and my wallet so i don't really want to spend unnecessary money on something that is not going to improve my experience.

Thank you again. :D

Maybe. It's truly dependent on how bad your current audio situation is.

Honestly, no.

It depends entirely on your hearing of course, but I bought an external amp/dac combo and didn't notice much difference at all.

It's not like you have hard to run headphones. You should be fine.

Thank you guys for all the helpful comments looks like i will hold off for a while at least i am planing on trying to get my music into "FLAC format" but i haven't got around to it yet. I guess thats probably the next step before buying an amp and dac. Again i appreciate all the helpful comments so thank you to everyone! :)

Just so you know, very, very, very few people can actually tell the difference between 320kbps mp3 and flac in a blind or double blind test. So there's no point in going for flac, really. I personally keep all my music in Wav, but that's because I have an abundance of drive space.

Wait what would be the best lossless format for use on a phone? Android if that helps would that be .WAV too or would it be something else?

Well, flac will take up less space than Wav. That being said, you won't hear any difference between flac, Wav, or 320kbps mp3, so you might as well use mp3, since you be able to fit a huge number more of songs than you'd be able to with either flac or Wav.
