If I get this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0106AO1SK/?tag=pcpapi-20 instead of this: Samsung 500 GB M.2 + 1 TB WD BLACK, is it more worth it?

samsung is much higher quality than OCZ

OCZ had a ton of issues in the past, I dont trust their products anymore

you can be sure with a samsung SSD that it will last a decade, especially the new 850 series

NEW PC build: Blank Heaven   minimalist white and black PC     Old S340 build log "White Heaven"        The "LIGHTCANON" flashlight build log        Project AntiRoll (prototype)        Custom speaker project

That's what I thought... I'm getting a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB M.2 SSD and a Western Digital Black Series 1 TB HDD for a new ITX rig. My current decision would be much faster and have a larger overall capacity. I think I'll stick with what I've got.

I had an 840 Pro, I had to update the firmware because one of the revisions were absolute crap and froze up the SSD. After that it was fast though, can't complain. But $240 for a 1TB SSD is a good deal IMO.

No, actual firmware.

That doesn't seem right... It should've worked no matter what.

Oh it worked, it just froze up like a little ... and I had to reset. There is firmware for SSDs, you know. And yes, I had to use the Samsung Magician to update it. But after that it ran so smoothly.

I've never heard of an SSD with firmware issues. Oh, well, I get it anyways because M.2 FTW.

~snip~

Hey there :)

Having multiple drives generally is considered better in terms of data safety. In case one drive fails, you would still have the data on the other one safe (you can store a system backup image on both drives for some redundancy) while a single larger drive would cause a major data loss in case of failure.
I would also consider which of the applications, files and overall data could really benefit from the faster access times and transfer speeds of the SSD and which should perform pretty much the same on a HDD and see if there's really a point in getting a single large SSD. :)
WD Black is a great performance drive that should be able to handle pretty much anything you throw at it.

I was already going to get a Western Digital Black 1 TB anyway. Also, you're an industry affiliate named Captain_WD and you're recommending a WD Black HDD... Nope, no correlation whatsoever!  :P

Well as a WD representative I can't really recommend any other brand or product. :) I'm only offering alternatives and options, it's up to every single person to choose which product would they go with. :)
