I´m working on a project that will host a cs go event.

Don't you generally want to run the game at low/medium so you get the highest frame rates possible?

Also are your displays going to be regular old 144hz displays, or of the free-sync/G-sync variety?

Because there's a free-sync display that's 144hz TN for $280, gotta check the range of Hz on it however "24-inch AMD FreeSync certified gaming monitor for 30Hz to 144Hz refresh rate, with 1920x1080 display" Should be good to go.

Is your budget higher than that? because you could always go with an i5 4460 over the 860k

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

No. I specified that they will need to be able to run at those settings.

That cpu, maybe not for competitive, they will be running a few programs in the background, get a i3 or even i5

But otherwise that's fine, R9 290 basic cases ssd, monitor and 8gb ram are good

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

"Like" comments to show your support of them or the idea they express.

There's about a 50 dollar difference between the 380 and 290, might as well go with the 290

In the short term sure, but I can't imagine these machines are only going to be used once, the 290 would be the better choice for the long run.

Isn't CS:GO very CPU dependent? I thought it didn't put a large load on the GPU, and really favored Intel.

Perhaps a 950 in place of a 380 or 290. Admittedly the 380 is a better performance per cost, but much higher heat output.
Perhaps this build?http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8PptD3

4690k at stock speeds will only pump out 4 more watts than a 4440.

The 380 pumps 100W more than a 950ti.

The game benefits more from CPU than GPU, so why have such an excess of GPU?

i used a 4160 ;)

I wasn't aiming to reply to your 4160 in general. Was aiming to reply to the 4460 in the video which has the same TDP as a 4440.

I read that CS:GO could benefit from more than a dual core when you have particles/physics. Not really sure myself, haven't touched a dual core for gaming in quite a while.

i would love to here what op thinks

4160 seems to be just at that 144 FPS area when no one is around:

When the FPS dips, so does the GPU load. Definitely taxing on that CPU

BAH... First video didn't catch he was running other stuff in the background:

It's capable of the frame rates in this video:

But like most videos I find with it, not really ultra.
