I was looking to upgrade my cpu/mobo... and then I saw the prices... Man I miss parity... That 150$ premium for being canadian... I wish my wage had increased by 35%+ during the last year.

I guess I'm just going to have to wait and hope the canadian dollar goes back up.

Debt has absolutely nothing to do with the strength of their currency.

I believe it's caused, at least partly, by central banks pumping cheap money into economies due to the recession. Until a short while back the US was about the only one doing it, that's why USD was so weak compared to other currencies.

 

But yeah, bye bye cheap exports. Here everything is stupid expensive even without a cheap dollar so I know your pain OP.

I sympathize with the Canadian LTTers even though I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am practically a few miles from the HQs of some major tech companies like Intel, nVidia, Yahoo!, etc. not because I have to share in the pain of currency exchanges but now the NHL's player salary isn't expected to increase very much.

It's sort of giving the Kings and Bruins some trouble, so I'm okay with that part at least.

The only reason our dollar has been doing so well the last couple years (actually more like the last year or so) is because we have a presidential election coming up in November; and the ruling party currently is doing everything in their power to make themselves look good such as making deals with third parties and big oil to strengthen the dollar. That way they can say "see what our party did? Elect someone from our side and it'll stay that way!" Even though as soon as anyone gets elected prices for everything will skyrocket and the USD will go to sh*t. Just like ti does every 4 years in our country.

Having no idea where you will be, can you think of another currency you'd rather have?

Oh don't worry, the dolar price here just doubled since last year. And don't forget, we still have 60% import taxes. And our Windows license costs 200$ for the version that can only delay updates.

Yup may I mention this, I bought my pc parts last boxing day in canada and had minimal sales, maybe saved 100$ at most, my pc costed around the 1300$ mark plus the ssd I bought for 100$ after the fact, if I were to build the exact same system today it would cost me around 1700$ cad tax in that's what prices are looking like compared to last year, I almost shit my pants when I looked at pc part picker and my build
