Save yourself some money and get the i5-4690K, it performs very similarly to the i7-4790K in gaming.

So basically which of these should i get, im upgrading from an fx-6300. Ill pretty much being doing only gaming, but from time to time ill do some photoshop.

If you can afford the 4790K, then get it. It has better in-game performance due to better single core performance.

4690K makes more sense in your case. Think about 6600K too.

If you can swing it, then you should get a 4790K or 6700K

It depends on the game. Sometimes you could pull an extra 10-20 fps.

I don't play MineCraft, but at least I know that it is extraordinarily CPU intensive. The difference between a 4690K and a 4790K is a couple hundred fps. So... You can go ahead and shut up.

No, as someone who played a lot of Minecraft the difference between an FX-8350 and i7-4790K wasn't that much..... Not to mention Minecraft doesn't optimize hardware properly, older GPUs like the GTX 670 beat the GTX 980 ;)

why so saltyyy

Wooh, you got the lotto numbers too? LOL Your game looking good and running well has way more to do with your GPU than your CPU. So it's all about that budget. If you got money to burn you won't hurt anything getting the i7. Heck, buy a ticket on the hype train to Skylake. It's silly to think you won't see a change in motherboards to match the new processors produced though, think Z87 to Z97. Thinking anything made now will be able to match recommended specs in ten years. I chuckled.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

The 4790ks tend to Oc more so when the i5 ain't enough u may get more mileage out of the 4790k

Also consider that consoles use a 8 core cpu so game developers will be moving towards that in the near future even if there not doing so right now, there are also a couple of games that benefit from hyper threading already

Bf4, watchdogs, crysis3

AMD (and proud) r7 1700 4ghz-

Hate to call BS on you, but I'm REALLY good at it. The PS3 had 8 threads(processing units) and developers couldn't make a paper airplane with them. The Xbox 360 had 3, and yet a PC playing the same game used 2.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

So when quad cores aren't enough

The only answer is to use more cores

I get better fps by 5/10 In most games with hyperthrrading on,

I just listed 3 games that make great use of it

So there will be more

No, you listed three games that when the graphics setting are adjusted to a level no one would play but creates an artificial bottleneck the hyperthreading gains a few fps. Your processor is meant to work with hypertreading on. It's single core speed needs the help. There will be a time when 4 threads will make a difference, that's not going to impact anyone building a PC right now. I knew going in my investment was a 2 year return tops, that way I knew to make it possible to upgrade at the same value I built at.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

no the eight was Disabled, the seventh was used for the OS, the rest was for devs.

The difference isn't that big anymore, if you are going to overclock them, because you can reach similar clockspeeds with both of them. And if you buy a k-chip, you have to overclock it ;)

But i would consider going with the newer skylake 6600k. Not that skylake is much faster, but since you have to change your mainboard anyway...

Same with the Xbox One, 7 are for developers to use and the 8th is for the OS. Originally it was 6 for developers and 2 for OS and Kinetic.

Now, the Xbox One uses an old AMD CPU. If I said my AMD was better than a i5 4690K Devil's Canyon for gaming Cuz I gotz me 8 cores, what would your and the rest of the forums response be?

Those cores in the consoles won't affect a i5, just yet.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
