Replacing the GTX 780

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

upgrading sounds better ^_^

390X for bang for the buck, Fury for most power. 980 for Ngreedia.

Alright, so I am not having a single issue with the 780, but I have to replace it, and I play games at 1080p max settings. Games I am currently playing are Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age Inquisition, Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft, Metro Last Light, CiV 5, and Total War: Shogun 2,  but I plan on playing The Witcher 3 and the yet to be released Total War: Warhammer game, all at 1080p.

At first I planned on getting a 980ti, but I thought I might be wasting a lot of money. So for a max 550USD budget, which card should I get? I am thinking between Asus's Strix 980 and MSI 390X.

Thanks. ^^

Up until very recently my card was an Asus GTX 780 direct cuii, i also game at 1920x1080 and in all honesty i didn't need to upgrade but i just wanted to lol

If you absolutely must upgrade then go for a 980ti (i did) because anything under that wont even feel like a huge upgrade, sure going from a 780 to a 980 will give you bigger scores on synthetic benchmarks but in terms of how a game will feel at 1920x1080 its not that huge of a difference.

If you want more Vram and to eventually upgrade resolution 390X is the one to go for but if not then get the 980

strix 980

cuz it isnt amd

No fanboys allowed.

For $550 look into the R9 Fury of you can find one, otherwise a 390x because the performance increase from a 980 is not worth the money.

550$? Fury.

Also - avoid Asus - their recent cards are abysmal.

There is a lot of advice here so I can't really add to it but may I ask you the reason to why you HAVE to upgrade, the GTX 780 is still a beast?

I would stick with the 780 and wait for Pascal personally, His GTX 960 will be fine for quite a while.

Well, if you really want 100% ultra settings 1080p 60fps youd need a 980 ti.

If that is too expensive get a 970 or r9 390, the 980 and 390x dont offer enough performance

to be wort the 150$ or so premium

1080p Ultra is fine with a 980, 390X and Fury as well :P

At least it's something :P

970 and 390 are more of a sidegrade to the 780. Not really that much faster. The 390 is faster than the other 2 by about 5%.
