Noctua L.N.A question

They come in both 3pin and 4pin.

They are just resistors that reduce the supply voltage going to the fan to make it spin slower.

PWM fans are not really meant to be voltage controlled but it works still in addition to the PWM control signal. (Provided the voltage is not too low).

The adapters will get hot while operating the little heat shrink bit in one of the cables will be hot. Beware not to use them with very high current draw fans as they may get too hot and burn out (don't use them on water pumps).

It is safe to use them on Noctua fans and any fan with an amperage rating similar to noctua's lineup which should include most quality fans. The fourth wire is just the PWM signal and the third wire is the speed sensor and the two that you must always have are the power supply return and feed.

You can safely use a 3 pin on a four pin usually if its keyed correctly. (But obviously a 4 pin does not always fit a 3 pin connector)

Well in this case I want to use the Define R5 fan controller. I have a choice of two 140mm from where I want to buy them: a14 ULN and a14 pwm. Now as I said I don't want to run the fan on the mobo because I just want them all to be on the fan controller (Which is 3 pin BTW)

I will use the fan that's at the back of the R5 and put it at the front. Then at the back I'll put a Noctua there. You see, since the noctua moves so much air I'd want to lower it's speed to not create negative air pressure.
