So I'm planning on having a x79 Asus Deluxe motherboard;

Despite having no explicit signs on the specs saying it can handle windows 10, there are drivers for it, so I assume so.

My question is, will i be able to get to the internet through windows 10 to download the windows 10 drivers, or will i have to get an old OS, download the drivers, THEN install windows 10.

This might seem like a dumb question, but I'm still new to this guys, sorry :(

Shipping sucks

Windows 8/10 have good default drivers, you'll likely be able to connect to the internet w/o the drivers.

My rig: Intel Core i7-8700K OC 4.8 | NZXT Kraken X62 | ASUS Z370-F | 16 GB Trident Z RGB 3000 (2x8) | EVGA 1070 SC | EVGA SuperNova NEX650G1 | NZXT H700 | Samsung 250GB 850-EVO | 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDDs

because if you dont, the lan ports will not show up for network connectivity

for example my motherboard needed TWO different drivers, one for the intel LAN and another for the asmedia LAN, because my board has dual ethernet ports

This doesn't explain why you'd use generic drivers.  But good effort I guess.

well because the LAN drivers on the CD are almost always the newest ones, and they work...

and you cant connect to the internet to download other drivers without the LAN drivers first...

if someone wasn't smart enough to download the lan drivers to an external or something

then you'd have to use the cd...or another pc to get the drivers first

wow no need for such language...

do you think that LAN drivers get updates every day like an antivirus or something? lol

they might make a few versions for bugfixes right after the software is made...and the drivers on the CD are pretty much always the same as the ones on the website, since they rarely get updates

and when they do get updated, which is like, maybe 3 years later, then its just bug fixes

there arent any performance improvements to be gained like with updating GPU drivers

a lan driver just works, and the one on the motherboard CD does exactly that, it works

some of the drivers like ai suite or other software does get updated more frequently, but you can download that once you are connected to the internet

also if you are super OCD and must 100% have the latest version for whatever reason you can always redownload the newer software AFTER connecting to the internet and update it that way

but anyway, when was the last time you updated your LAN driver? probably never since the last time you changed motherboards.

But WHY take that risk.  And you're going to install the latest drivers anyways.  It just sounds stupid to me to have some out of date drivers, some new ones, some generic ones.  The only reason I can think that is someone just doesn't want to do it.  Which is lazy.  There is nothing wrong with being lazy, I'm lazy about a bunch of things (like laundry, or cooking) but I'm not lazy about my computers.

Well, if its your first build and you can't get on the internet therefore, using the CD to install the drivers is a pretty productive way of getting them working, I'd have thought.

YMMV, etc.

I really don't abide to this.  I feel like ANYONE who is building a computer already owns a computer, or has at least 1 of their family and friends that has a computer they could borrow for 1 hour to do what they need to do.

Honestly, the "I don't have access to a computer" thing isn't real anymore.  You have a much better bet to NOT have any family and friends than to not have any without a computer.

If it is quicker to do this after you've built the machine because you've forgotten to prepare a USB stick or your family live far away (I moved to a town to be with my now Wife where none of my friends are within an hour drive) then using a CD makes sense. I have several machines so I just find out what I need and make a USB stick on the fly. Not everyone has more than 1 system and for some people, there won't be anyone local or close enough to borrow their PC.

Then once the LAN ports are active, you can update to the latest drivers.

Not everyone has the same circumstances as yourself - no need to become aggravated over it.

Oh also, I once had an instance when doing my latest build where my internet was down and I'd run out of data on my mobile (so couldn't tether/hotspot), but I wanted to stream media stored on said PC to the one downstairs, so I used the CD to install the drivers to make use of the LAN card.

I really don't understand this.  You could have went to the local library, ask someone at work, use the work computer, you said you had a previous computer, could have used the preinstalled OS to prepare the OS install, and probably at least 2-3 more options that I cant come up with right now.

If you do it because you just don't want to, once again, that's fine.  You're more than welcome to.  But I think we can all agree that it NOT the best way to do it and often causes more headaches down the road.

I had another computer, yes, but you've not read my post correctly - I said my internet was down, it was at night - so libraries etc were closed.

I've never encountered another tech who has been given headaches because they used a CD when they had to. Installing an old driver and then upgrading it isn't going to break anything unless the new driver is cocked.

Relax, pal.

How often does that happen though.  So many times when you connect your computer to the internet Windows goes CRAZY and just starts looking EVERYTHING up.  It will find the v1.0 driver that you've installed from the CD, and Windows will be like "Oh lets install v2.0 without asking anyone", but when actuality v3.0 is the latest version that (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, Acer, HP, Dell) has released and you're trying to download it and install it at the same times Windows is installing the other version.

It happens ALL the time, pretty much EVERY problem people have with a driver not installing stems from that EXACT scenario.  This also happens with Windows Updates, other programs trying to update, additional libraries installing... And just the general fight and headache with Windows wanting to be a dick and trying to do everything itself (although it does it half ass).

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Why are you so passionate about not using a CD for drivers?

I've never had issues of that nature, guess I'm lucky - I swap hardware a LOT!!
