EVGA GTX 970 SSC - 3390 SEK

Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming - 3690 SEK

MSI GTX 970 - 3790 SEK

Asus GTX 970 STRIX - 3989 SEK

the evga one is so much cheaper than the other ones, but is there a catch?

Don't get EVGA because I think the cooler is not designed for it or some crap. I think all the others are good though.

Where are you getting htis information?

Toi my knowledge there was an issue with the ACX 1.0 cooler, but not because it wasn't designed for it.

Agreed. You're better off getting a R9 390. Unless you want to get a 980/980Ti, a 390 is your best bet.

happen to be just watching jay's latest video (390x hybrid) and they dont seem to differ much...

if you're sure they're that much better, please provide benchmarks to prove yourself.

on topic: out of the 4 you picked:

- EVGA is an nvidia only brand, i'm guessing thats why they're generally cheaper (not in my area, because of distribution issues)

- i heard the gigabyte is the coolest of the GTX cards, but also a tad on the loud side.

- MSI seems to make generally good cards, not much more to it, not much less either.

- asus strix are cards for people that are going for absolute silence. you wont hear them at all until you put some decent load on them. - comes at a performance cost.

You raise an interesting point, just checked Jayztwocents vid out and he lists the EVGA 970 SSC OC at 13789 in firestrike normal (1080) I've got a friend with a 970 and the most he's ever got in firestrike normal is 10500 which is lower (but not by much) than my 290x I doubt that the 970 can get nearly 14000 in firestike even OC'd, can someone verify

Edit most of the peeps in this http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/298469-gtx-970-ownerspost-your-3dmark-firestrike-score-single-gpu/ thread are getting 10000-11000 with the odd 12000 so some magic fairy dust being applied by Jayztwocents methinks

That's because they've got really strong CPUs. What you should be looking at is the GPU score but even then it is affected by the CPU as well.

To OP: G1 Gaming

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

That makes more sense but a bit misleading, don't most people go by the TOTAL score NOT just GPU score?

Still, you've still got the whole ramgate thing with the 970

When you go by the total score, you are evaluating the whole system. People compare total scores when they are comparing systems.

If you want to specifically go into the GPU then you look at the gpu score. And that 13K score you saw from jayz was the GPU score. If you look at that thread again you'll see that most peeps there are having 13K gpu scores.

I was nearly able to break 14k graphics score with the stock bios.  With a modded bios, I'd bet you could get close to 15k graphics score, maybe even higher.

The 970 FTW with a modded bios are very good.  Just have to mod the bios to get past the power limit restrictions.

Either MSI, EVGA, or Gigabyte will all be rlly good

I don't know where people are getting their info these days.

MSI does not beat out ASUS for video cards (or mobo's).

The best for GPUs are ASUS, Gigabyte and EVGA.  PERIOD!

No more MSI on this list!!!!  MSI is borderline junk.

Intel i7-4790K Processor, 32 GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1600 RAM, ASUS Z-87 Pro Motherboard, Corsair RM 750 PSU, 250 GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, 2 x 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDDs, ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX GPU, Corsair Carbide 500R Case, AFT Pro-77U Card Reader, Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor – U2415, Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, Windows 9 (Windows 10 with StartIsBack++)

Youre joking, yes?

And if your argument is that Asus is better than MSI or any others, then you havent had to go through Asus RMA or Asus support, which is utterly awful.

And idk where youre getting that MSI is junk, theyre great and make quality stuff. Idk what your argument will be, but a video card is a video card, just because Asus charges more doesnt mean it will be better.

so the general line here is that they're very similar, with the GTX970 using significantly less power.

I don't know where people are getting their info these days.

so, where are you getting your information?

I love my ASUS STRIX GTX 970. Have 2 of them. They're actually less noisy then what I had expected. And as far as overclockability goes mine tops out with stock voltage at 1591 and passes valley and kombustor stability check so go for that you like the most or feel for the brand they're all fine. Though I do believe that STRIX may be less overclockable due to the fact that it only uses PCIE lane and a single 8-pin connector but yet again there comes the silicon factor as my friend could not beat my STRIX with his G1 GAMING which tops out at 1450ish. So idk at this point what's more important the power design or silicon. Probably silicon.

And to prove that my STRIX does reach that speed on core here's a screen shot:

I really like my msi gaming, but it only has one displayport and that kills it for me=/
