This is an extremely critical assignment for my honors English class on a vignette that has a fictional appearance to the reader through the eyes of a teenager. Our prompt to choose literary devices to show how the author created a mood for the piece.  

 

Literary devices are used by Sandra Cisneros throughout the vignette “The Monkey Garden”, to highlight the mood of the piece. For instance, Cisneros uses personification to encompass feelings of mysticality when she says things disappeared in the Garden, “as if the garden itself ate them.”(95)  Personification was used by Cisneros in Esperanza’s humanlike description of the garden, while creating a dark sense of mystery and enchantment in the reader. Similarly, Cisneros describes how the tree Esperanza was near “wouldn’t mind if she lay down” (97). In this section, the tree is personified in a way that is contrasting to the rest of the garden. The fictional and humanlike style that both situations are described in broadens the range of emotions in the reader, and exaggerates the mysterious mood Cisneros is implying on the reader. Throughout the vignette, we see Sandra Cisneros applying personification to give deeper and more mysterious meaning to the garden.

Tutor Centers are a great thing you know? Also for the quote, I know in my College Composition class you wanna right at the end like (LastName of Who Said it, PG#). Also are you required to quote the title, thought you had to underline them. Just saying what I do in my College Composition class:) Oh do not forget commas before you write a quote, I noticed one missing.

From simple things like apostrophes and semi-colons these website do not catch them. I used one website and it said Jobs Job's and Jobs' all was fine ( used in the same sentence ). My best suggestion is to do online tutoring or if your school offers it. It helps, even if you are smart it helps. Look at me, I am 14 and I take College Composition 1 for my English class, along with 3 other college classes and Honors Geometry, but I still go to a tutoring center.

My College Composition Professor takes stuff off for every single possible thing you have done wrong. For example, a online rater cannot tell you that you do not have enough information, whether or not you have stuff in the correct order, or have stuff sorted out neatly. They cannot tell you whether a sentence/paragraph are to long or what not. These are all things teachers will put into play when grading. Another example, in a formal essay you DO NOT use words such as Don't, They'd, Can't, or Couldn't. Our teacher raised hell in the class room when she seen how many people used these words.
