Hey guys, I'm entirely aware I've posted about this before, but I just REALLY want to get this PCI-E 2.0 x8 thing off my head. Not only is it now bottlenecking since I upgraded to Windows 10 on some games, but I've literally done EVERYTHING to try and diagnose why exactly this is the case. I've done the following:

Update Drivers/BIOS

Checked GPU-Z Under load using the test thingy

VERIFIED that all PCI-E Contacts are intact

Checked GPU-Z for any bus interface load. It seems that Both Advanced Warfare and Titanfall do cause some load in this.

So basically, do you guys have any idea why exactly my PC's running at PCI-E 2.0 x8 instead of x16? I'm also under no power savings as well. If anybody knows how to possibly fix this, that would be awesome! Here are my specs:

Intel Core i5-4570

8 GB RAM

GTX 760

600W PSU

MSI H81M-E33

2 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

How is it bottlenecking?

@beclauss

1- It shouldn't be bottlenecking

2- Are you sure it was running at x16?

Looking at this pic the slot isn't fully soldered, so it may not even be electrically a x16 slot

I looked up the board's specifications. MSI is clearly advertising PCIe 2.0 x16. http://us.msi.com/product/mb/H81M-E33.html#hero-specification

PCIe 2.0 16x = PCIe 3.0 8x

(In case of bandwidth)

I successfully hacked 127.0.0.1! Now I cant turn on my computer :/

Hmm... I guess it's time to email MSI :D!

I mean I have had this PC for over a year and I'm still at 2.0 x8. I did a full inspection of my slot, all the contacts are present. Not only that, but I've also had to replace my GPU which was ALSO running at x8 so i'm a bit convinced its not my GPU thats causing it.

IDK, clear CMOS, follow the paths of the last lanes, check Chipset drivers...

I've already cleared CMOS, didn't work. Oh and here's another thing, if I reset my PC and check board explorer, it'll show my slot running at 5 GT/S for a few seconds WHILE at x8 still but after a few seconds it goes back to 2.5 GT/S

Yeah, I also took a good pic of my slot CONFIRMING that my slot isn't damaged at all. If its not my GPU (since I've had to replace it before) and that GPU (while dying lol) was running at x8 I can confirm it isn't the GPU at all. I've also checked power savings, no power saver is causing this either. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I also reset the CMOS.

5 GT/s is for PCIe 2.0, 2.5 GT/s for PCIe 1.0 was it in idle at that moment?

This is a signature.

What have you tried so far other than what was mentioned in this post? I can't remember since the last time you created this thread.

I've tried re-seating the card, using compressed air on the slot, resetting the CMOS, put it under stress.

Try re-flashing the BIOS if you haven't done that.

Remember: PCI-E 2.0 x16= 5 GT/S. PCI-E 2.0 x8= 2.5 GT/S. PCI-E 2.0 x8= 1.1 x16 which equals 2.5 GT/S.

Ah dong, forgot it was running at x8 *facepalm*

I don't think its safe to re-flash the BIOS considering I'm at 6.7. ALso, when I got this PC back from repairs, my BIOS was at 6.5 (still at x8) and I've literally flashed all the way to 6.7 and STILL no difference.

Call MSI.
