i5 6500 vs Xeon 1231 v3 for gaming?

RespawnCake
I currently live in Asia so prices are bit different. But i can get Skylake i5 6500+mobo for the same money as xeon 1231v3+mobo.(1151 mobo are quite more expensive than 1150).

Is it true that xeon 1231 v3 is almost like i7 4970 without iGPU and ability to OC(both which i don't need)?

It does have 4cores/8 thread, and im planning to keep this cpu for at least 4-5 years.

I'm stuck in between those two, since skylake is new architecture but still xeon those have 4/8 cores/threads,which is great for futureproofing a bit.

Note that it will be used for gaming only.

Go for 1231 v3. It's basically a 4790 without iGPU.

It is way better than 6500 which is only little bit better (not a huge) than 4690.

Hyperthreading will help you in the future.

Gaming?

You won't notice a huge difference

I'd get the Xeon because you don't need DDR4 for it

intel understood the mistake they did, placing xeon (haswell-e) on the 250 usd price range,  and i believe that the new xeon series will be priced as the locked skylake i7 cpus,

so you better grab the 1231 v3  for the time being.

The site has changed....
