980ti compatibility with my motherboard

PenguinForce

Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade my GTX 570 to a 980ti. I am wondering if there will be any compatibility issues with my Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H, Intel Z77, mATX motherboard.

I asked this question on EVGA forums and got a reply saying that my MB BIOS is out dated and most likely will not work with 980ti.

The latest BIOS version for my MB is 2013/12/31 on gigabyte website.

I want to get a second opinion on this as I don't particularly want to spend more money upgrading other components as I am already dropping €800 on a graphics card  :(

Thanks :)

I don't understand what you mean that.

I don't understand if you are incorrectly quoting them, the person has no idea what they are talking about or I am missing something.

It should work.

As long as your motherboard has a PCI-e slot the GPU will work... worst case scenario is the board doesn't have full bandwidth slots but the card will still work, just won't get maximum bandwidth. In your case I can't imagine this being an issue as I'm pretty sure every Z77 board has a 16x slot.

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

Wow very quick replies.

Here is the link to the question I asked:

Actually there seems to be an issue with socket 1555 with older bioses from Gigabyte not being able to boot with the newest gpus.

Update your bios to the latest version (f15) and everything should be fine.

Should I update the BIOS now or should I only update if the card doesn't work?
